What phrases do you hate but use anyway?

Transcribing an interview has made me realise how annoying I am when I speak. I generally hate people saying "like" and "kind of" and it turns out I do both constantly, along with "basically". :ruby:

I can't be the only one who does this, can I? :look:

I say "like" all the time, like. :(

Also, A pointed out a few years ago I use "obviously" a lot so I'm super paranoid about that, obviously.

All the stupid work buzzwords. I use them all the time, because people around me do too. And die a little inside every time...

(I honestly said the other day that I had no "bandwidth" to take on a task for example - because I knew the audience would "get" that concept without further discussion, but ugh ugh ugh. :shame: )

Me too and I also hate myself. I using 'going forward' all the time and also 'next steps' :ruby:

In normal life I swear far too much and I only really notice when I am with people who don't do it that much, or at all. My colleague never, ever swears so I rarely use bad language at work now which is good. Not that I did loads before but my previous assistant was fond of a profanity or two :)) so we used to have a good old sweary chat on occasion.

I work for a large American company so I use every business buzzword you could think of. :))

I am also superfluously sweary. Conversely, I sometimes indicate affirmation by chirping 'Okeydokes!'

Someone I used to work with used to say "Alrighty!" to indicate assent, which was bizarre, as he was really not generally chirpy. It amused me every time. :))

You are me, BEL, apart from the company I'm contracting at not being American. They do have their own internal shitspeak though. They have a 'Big K.oru' for best practice stuff and roll-outs, and it's all Agile-ing and Scrum-ming everywhere you look.

I say 'obviously' all the time. I hate myself a bit every time I say it.

That would be having (or not having) "spare cycles" in our place.

I say basically a lot too. I also say "shine a light" instead of shit now, and not just around the children - I don't know where it's come from and I wish it would go back there, I feel like a right idiot every time it leaves my mouth.

I do this, drop a fuck or a twat into a conversation then realise that I don't actually know my audience :shame:

I sometimes use buzzwords at work as well which I hate.

I swear far too much. My husband is exceedingly sweary which doesn't help.

My American colleagues are a bit more sensitive to swearing than the rest of us, so I've developed a tendency to say "Ah, shoot" instead of shit :ruby:.

My supervisor who I sit next to hates swearing and rude jokes and any risque talk. When she is on holiday it's like we all have tourettes and swear non-stop.

I'm was quite pleased when my boss started swearing in front of me, it makes me feel more at home

I've started saying an enthusiastic 'Right!' as an affirmative and I don't know why and it annoys me every time.

J pointed out that I say "Well!..." when asked a question :verm:

I resist business speak as much as possible. I hate it.
