Lipcote

Post by Cosmopolitan »

Does anyone remember this? Can you still get it? Does it stop your lipstick coming off when you kiss people?

It is horrible stuff.

Yes. I used to wake up in the mornings of the 80's still with my lipstick in place ~ even after loads of kissing.
I'm sure it's still sold in Boots.

God, my mum used to love that stuff. It's horrible, leaves your lips all dry and only makes the outer rim of your lipstick stay in place.

So, mixed results.

I would like to wear nice lipstick to the wedding but I do not want to end up having to wipe it all off S's face for after pictures. Suggestions?

I find three layers of application/blotting usually keeps it in place. It tends to be fresh unblotted applications that come off.

I used Max Factor Lipfinity on my wedding day and that lasted really well.

Yes, I can recommend Lipfinity too.

I wore this for most of the nineties. It mattes your lipstick down.

Just before me and my mates went out we would all be walking around chatting at each other without moving our lips which were stinging like buggery. Happy days

Lipfinity is good, but drying. But you can pop a moisturising balm or gloss on top.

I cannot keep lippy on to save my life so I like those two ended Stayperfect things from No.7. One end is like a matt dye which lasts for ages, the other is a clear moisturising glossy goo which you can keep reapplying. So at least if he gets any on him, it will be clear gloss only.

What about one of the stains you get now, the pen ones? I tend to use them as a base and then just apply gloss or balm or light coloured stuff over the top.

The blotting and powdering thing works too.

For any of it I would make sure the week before you take really good care of your lips and they are super moisturised so there are no flakes at all, all the long lasting stuff shows any imperfections up badly.

I like Lipfinity, but haven't bought it since I tried the Maybelline 24hr thingy. I use a much more muted shade than the model in the link but the balm is what makes it for me, it feels like a proper lip balm but looks all dewy on, without being sticky.

edited to make the link better

Lipcote also makes no one actually want to kiss you because your lips taste like chemicals. I had a boyfriend who was very unreasonable about this, while also wanting me to wear red lipstick, and for it to never be smudged. :bite:

Everyone I snogged in the 90s was blind drunk so it was ok. :romance:

This one was teetotal. :ruby: Until a few years later when I found him wandering around town with a hipflask of whiskey. I don't think this was technically my fault for wearing Lipcote.

Lip cote leads to whisky addiction. Interesting. I shall avoid it then.

In a strange coincidence, I got some Lipcote in this month's glossybox

Cos - I'm happy to stick it in the post to you if you want to try it (I really can't see me ever using it).
