I'd say a bit more and then be prepared to "compromise" and "drop" to my current salary if needed uhh:.

My current salary is just under a quarter on top of what the average is so I could be shooting myself in the foot by asking for too much. Also, in the grand scheme of things it makes little difference anyway as any shortfall should be covered by universal credit - my recent pay rises haven't resulted in any more money for the month, it just reduces the UC element of it.

For my most recent role, they asked and I told them what I was currently on (27k) and what I would expect from them (25k, the very top of what they were advertising). I told them I was willing to drop to a lower salary only because I felt like it was a really suitable job and there was room for progression in the relatively near future. I was so nervous doing it but it worked! Be bold!

That is the understatement of the year! :))

I like Shoe's approach, that seems quite sensible and good advice for our Skips, best of luck! A 20 minute walk to work sounds heavenly.

I have a prescription for Citalopram :frolic:

Yes, I like that approach. I'm not sure there is much room for progression but I'm sure I can make some stuff up.

I'm not that sure with mine either but I figured it was a good reason for accepting less and I wanted it to be obvious I would prefer more.

I've had the interview and it sounds like a good role. Nothing out of the ordinary but the current admin person has been there for 12 years. I should find out on Monday. I told them I had to give two weeks notice which would see me through to next payday.

I didn't get it. He said I'm overqualified, they don't think it would be a suitable role and they couldn't afford me. Well you can see my experience on my CV so why fucking interview me then?

I've had enough of this.

Also, I started this thread in January, 2019. I've been job hunting pretty much throughout (with periods where I've put more into it than others) and I'm still at the same place. The only job offers I've had are for roles that are either temp or have weekly pay, neither of which are suitable. If I could get a massive pay rise we wouldn't need the universal credit and weekly pay wouldn't be an issue, but that's unlikely to happen (I'm talking £15,000 on top of what I earn, I didn't get paid that much in London).

Skips - very sorry to hear that. It's so frustrating when people waste your time. I know it is very difficult but keep your hope up for something great to come along soon.
