The Superflex swings are still there at Tate Modern, and the viewing platform is cool.

We did a lot of walking, but saw most things the kids wanted to see, like the entirety of Hamleys. I wish it had been nicer weather and we could have done the parks or an open top bus, but we can always go back.

I still want to go to Kew, desperately.

For future trips, I would always recommend the museum of London - both the version at Moorgate and the one at Canary Wharf - lots to see and never crazily busy - I can’t deal with the crowds at the NHM/science museum. If you go to the Moorgate one, it’s an easy walk down to St. Paul’s (or bus ride), over the bridge to the Tate modern.

Also a loop on the DLR, cable car and boat is always fun and seems to entertain the kids!

Bumping this as I’ve kicked up a fuss and now I’ll be going to London for a short weekend.

I’m driving down Friday night and likely won’t get there till 9ish (5 hour drive) and I have to leave again at 3 on Sunday.

We’ll be based in Richmond.

I’ll have all 3 children with me and they’re 4, 8 and 9 so it needs to be something that will hold everyone’s interest.

Cheap would be nice.

My sister has suggested a Harry Potter walking tour but I think more ‘sights’ might be better.

Possibly the Tower of London for some gruesome history and then an open top bus passed the Houses of Parliament/Big Ben etc.

Bearing in mind I’ll be knackered from the driving too.

You’ll be nice and close to Kew Gardens and Hampton Court palace if you fancied those as well. I don’t know when you’re going but might be worth checking Horrible Histories live at Hampton court or Richmond theatre.

Hampton Court always has some really good stuff on in the summer that the kids can get involved in and there the Magic Garden which would be fun on a hot day.

Richmond Park, innit.

You should check out the playgrounds in Roehampton too...

You can hop on a boat from Richmond to Hampton Court as well which is fun.

The Magic Garden at Hampton Court is lovely, we went there the other week. The maze is fun too. We had so much fun in the gardens we didn’t make it into the castle! We saw herds of deer in Bushey Park on the way there and then walked back along the river which was really nice too.

Definitely get the river clipper, you can see all the good stuff as it goes down past Canary Wharf to the dome. The Magic Garden at Hampton court is great too, but can get really busy - there are fountains and sand so a change of clothes is a good plan.

Tomorrow the family are off to see Mamma Mia the musical but I left it too late to book. Any ideas what I could do with a 9 year old for the evening?

My fall back is the cinema.

Evening boat trip on the river? Picnic tea and hanging out in one of the Royal parks? Late booking tickets for a different show? Depends where you’re staying, I guess. Don’t come all the way to London just for the cinema.

Just take a stroll around Soho and Chinatown? There's plenty to see there.
