Geocaching

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

 I really can’t get worked up about collecting the souvenirs but some people seem to get really obsessed with them. Some were apparently dropping off a travel bug they own in all their own caches and retrieving immediately just to get the points.

I’m waiting for the postman, :fc: he’s here soon with a parcel of containers I need for a new hide. I’d like to get out to do it at lunchtime.

ETA oh, nothing in the post today

Yes I wasn’t bothered about the souvenirs but I needed a nice number!

Have you seen this virtual? https://coord.info/GCGY2Z It’s based in Holland but you can claim it anywhere in Europe. Basically they’ve divided the whole continent into a grid of 2km squares. You pick your favourite (where you live or anywhere else so long as no one has already done it) and take a photo at each corner to upload to the cache page.

I’ve been looking at your FA Cup puzzle. I think I get it but am now stuck. I work out the clues to eliminate at the teams. Are there two red herrings?

I think the away team is Southampton.

2 of the red herrings are quite close together and might appear to be a single clue which is a bit of a design flaw.

Chicken/rooster and the plane, although I have an idea for the plane but can’t find evidence to back it up. I had assumed that the car and sign were together.

The car and the sign are different and the chicken is a red herring. You should be able to google what’s written in the plane.

Ah, it’s an S not a 5! I’m down to two teams, one on each side. But now I must sleep.

Well done! I might have to edit the picture to separate the sign and the car.

So, scuppered today by phone not having enough signal to load up the caches. Any advice please?

Also, is your kayak for geocaching?

Helpfully I’ve only just seen this.

I always load the caches up in advance over a WiFi connection and save them to an offline list. Then you don’t need to use mobile data at all. However I think you can only do this on the official app (which I never use) if you have premium membership.

The kayaks are mostly for geocaching but will probably have other outings too :))

Can you still navigate to the caches with an offline list? I am a premium member on the official app. What do you use then?
