Thanks, I'm so glad to have just got around. :))

I was way down on the finishing list though. I mean, I didn't expect to win it or anything (the winner did it in a little over half an hour  ) but I certainly want to improve on my future placings.

Just getting into the middle of the pack and doing that with regularity would be enough for me I think, but based on yesterday's results it is going to mean a really big improvement is required. I think I'm going to start hill repping this week for sure, thats supposed to help hugely.

How big is the event? I've tended to find the smaller they are the more serious the runners are hence the times are quicker. My sister calls them 'low BMI events' . I think you're right and you'd knock at least 10mins off easily if you did it sober

There was about 100 in total, I think but I don't know what is big and what is small. There was a big group called Avon Valley Runners who seemed to have won everything which might have skewed things a bit I suppose.

I'm not disappointed with what I have done here, it has just given me more food for thought I think. My next one will be better and if I can knock 10 minutes off then that would put me into contention for where I would want to 'place' based on yesterday.

Tiny!

Don't worry about how far down you are, unless you are a club runner and start at the front, it won't ever really matter

Not every "race" is about a PB but you've got a
baseline now, look to get better than that on the next one and build up* from there.

*You'll soon need a.rack for the medals :))

Ah cheers, that makes me feel a bit better then. :))

I don't worry about these things as such, but I am very aim driven in that I have to have a target or I lose interest. But I see how placings can be fluid depending on the class of runner and the number of them. I also get that factors such as different courses make it difficult to really judge if a PB is actually a PB. I don't set out to try to win or anything stupid like that but I do find it all fascinating.

Anyway, I suspect that the next one might be a little flatter and I'll be a better runner by then so we shall see how it goes.

The only time I bothered about placing is parkrun. It's great to know when you are first in your age category or that you have beaten the person you've been trying to keep up with for weeks :))

That went fairy well :)) This is the third year I’ve run this particular 10k - a nice quiet route with only a couple of little hills. 1 minute off my 10k PB, and about 5 mins off my previous time for that event!

I did feel much more tired over the last 2 miles, and I didn’t push quite as hard as I could as I’m nervous about next week’s half.

You'll be fine! The fact that you can time your runs like that says so. I wouldn't have a clue.

I need to add an entry to this but can't remember where the fuck it is, when it is, or where my confirmation of actually entering is.

21st October - Wix 5(m) - Mojo

I’m so pleased with that :)) I’d convinced myself I’d be around three hours, IF I finished! I wasn’t happy with my preparation and the longest run I’d got up to was 12 miles - at over 13.5 mm pace!

I wanted to aim for a fairly aspirational 12mm average, and managed 12:01 :)). Helped slightly by the fact that, as ever, as went out a little faster than intended.

My legs are killing me from hip to toes, but I’m very happy

Have you found the other race you entered, TC?

That's a great time Mojo, you must be over the moon.

I find halfs really difficult to pace so I'm tipping my hat in your direction at that effort.

I've chucked a cheeky 10km in there which TC would love as it's a nighttime trail run through a windfarm. I'm really looking forward to it.

It’s a fairly slow time in the grand scheme of things, but great for me.

To put it in context, our star runner won (retained) First Lady in 1:21 :)) That’s around 6 minute miles!
