Final set tie-breaks at Wimbledon

Post by Rosa »

They're bringing them in from next year. No more Isner v Mahut scenarios. It's probably fairer on the players, but I'm a bit sad about it for some reason.

It's a sensible decision as the current setup is quite brutal. But I did quite like watching them.

I am pleased for the Isner-Mahut situations, but sad for the loss of the Federer-Roddick and Federer-Nadal finals. I can see why they are doing so, but maybe they could have kept them for the finals only?

I recall Kevin Anderson saying they must be brought in after beating Isner (Isner again!) in the semi-final this year. I've just checked and it was 26-24 in the final set!

It makes great viewing, but it really takes it out if the player and their next game(s) suffer as a consequence. It makes sense, but is slightly disappointing.

I agree with Liv. Exciting as they are to watch, those tie breaks are ridiculous, but I don’t think you should be able to win the final in a tie break, so I wish they’d keep it the same for the final.

I'm a bit sad about it too, there have been some amazing final sets. Not so much the Isner/Mahut sort though. I feel quite annoyed with Isner. This is all his fault.

Of course it's his fault. Although I didn't realise the final set tie-break will only come in to play at 12-12, which makes me a little happier.

Ah, I didn’t realise that. That seems to make more sense.
