 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I love Lisa Jewell too, Lil.
I'm reading Between the Assassinations for my book club, but it's not my cuppa tea. I doubt I'll finish it.

That's what puts me off Book Clubs, you know.
I don't know what to read next, American Gods or the MI5 biography/history thing.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
The Edwyn Collins book was very moving and wonderful.
I am now reading the first book by a turtle.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I haven't unpacked my books yet so haven't found my new ones. So I borrowed the last Twilight one from a friend which I'm reading now. It makes the train journey go very quickly.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I've just finished At Home by Bill Bryson, which I really enjoyed. Started re-reading his The Lost Continent too. Don't know what to go for next - maybe one of the Christopher Brookkmyre's I haven't read yet.

Cosmo - the books have arrived; I think Frankie & Stankie is coming on its holidays with me. I'm about two thirds through Cry the Beloved Country. It's beautifully written; I was battling against tears on the bus this morning.

American Gods! It's v good. I've just finished The Music of The Spheres, set in London in 1795, and a tale of 'astronomy, political intrigue and murder'. Really rather good, definitely one for the stargazers out there.

I especially loved Vince and Joy, I just didn't want to stop reading it as it was so good. It strangely reminded me of One Day, but not as good - and yet it would probably be dismissed as just chick lit, which is a real shame

I've just finished her and have got Jack Dee's autobiography on the go, but I'd rather read another Lisa! You find you really care about her characters. Thirty Nothing actually made me cry proper tears but that's probably because I'm emoshunal anyway. I've got The Truth about Melody Browne once I've got Jack out of the way.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I've never read that, Digs. I keep meaning to.
Today I went in WH Smiths and all the top 100 paperbacks were buy one, get another for £1. So I got the Vampire Diaries (yes, I have a mental age of 16) and something else which I have now forgotten. The Vampire Diaries is quite good, so far.

You must. In fact, if I ever see it in the second-hand shop here I will buy it for you. It's too good not to read.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I read two books on the Falklands War today; Four Weeks In May about the sinking of the Coventry, and Vulcan 607 about the raid on the runway at Port Stanley. I am about to put in an Amazon order for my holidays, Girls Gone By publishing have released the fourth and fifth books in the Katy Did series, so they are a must. What else do I want? 14 days, 14 or so books.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
Are they by Susan Coolidge rosy or a new writer?
And what sort of books do you like, except ones set in Port Stanley?

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
They are by Susan Coolidge - who knew that there were five in the series? What Katy Did, What Katy Did at School, What Katy Did Next, Clover, and In The High Valley. There is also Nine Little Goslings which is referred to in WKDN but is really not worth buying - read it on Project Gutenberg.
I like historical stuff (but have all Philippa Gregory's works) and early C20th mysteries (but have all of Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers, Josephine Tey, Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh) and Austen/Bronte/Dickens (but have everything published), have both Karen Maitland books.

 Re: On Your Bookshelf.
I've read the first three Katy books but I didn't know there were any more.
If you like early 20th century crime, get Edmund Crispin. They are beautifully written, witty and funny and good stories too.
