Good luck, Olive!
(Is this where you get a job and that’s what sorts out your US paperwork?)

I have no job offers and very little interest in my CV. Hopefully something pops up before we're destitute.

Oh Skips I am sure something will come your way - first couple of weeks in January is slow for hiring decisions I am sure due to holidays but all should be back to normal next week. Fingers crossed for you

Skips, I feel your pain. I've been applying for jobs the last two weeks with no responses and was starting to get paranoid but I finally got an email last night offering an interview so I'm hoping this is the start of things changing. The job location is totally wrong but I'll go for the interview anyway to see how it goes.

Sadly not. Our applications go through on Mr O’s job.
Skips, I wasn’t hopeful about hearing anything as January tends to be quite quiet so fingers crossed something comes up.
Good luck for your upcoming interview, Jupiter. Any chance you can work from home?
The one I am up for would be a 1.5 hour commute one way. So unless wfh is an option (unlikely) it’s a non starter but figure it’s good practice if nothing else.

Re: Time For A Change
I'm hoping they would be open to WFH or at least flexible hours but we will see. The commute would be the same distance as yours and E already does that commute so it's just not feasible for us both to do it with nursery drop off and pick up. Is there no hope of WFH at all with yours?

Re: Time For A Change
Yes, for both of you to have that commute is just not doable. Especially if you’re new to a role and are trying to build up some goodwill.
Mine is unlikely to be WFH as I’d be employed by Company A to be an in-house consultant to Company B. In my previous company I worked across a lot of accounts and had a team which meant I only worked from client offices once a week. One office was near my house and I worked 10-4 but the other was based up North. The smaller ones only required a 2-3 hour stint based on whatever the project was.
In this instance the company is C.oke so presumably they want someone to work across all brands.

Ah I see. Yes that probably won't work. Is the commute completely undoable or could you make it work?

Re: Time For A Change
That's very kind of you Thora, but I HAVE A JOB OFFER!
My line manager is on holiday until the 28th, so another manager (the Finance Director of all people) called me in and told me the good news as I was going to leave the end of the month if I hasn't heard anything. I should get a new (permanent) contract in the next couple of days. No mention of money (I've been on the same salary since I joined March 2018) but I guess it may not have been his place to tell me that as well or as they had to jump through hoops to get me the offer (it needed US approval) I may not be getting any more. But I don't care! I like working here; the commute is nice and short, I can continue with my volunteering and I can really make the role my own.

No weekly pay, no wondering if it's going to be extended at the end of the month, better training opportunities and access to benefits!
