It's the little things you miss...
I liked this article, it sums up how I feel about my "old life"

I miss pootling around in shops, and I miss going out for breakfast at weekends. I miss not doing a mental risk assessment before I do anyfuckingthing!

I miss walking in a straight line, actually NEXT to MrA, rather than having to zig-zag to avoid people coming the other way or overtaking us. I will not miss having to regularly step off the path onto the mud, while muttering “Which way are we all going?”

I miss going into town at the weekend and mooching about/grabbing a bite to eat. I miss going to somewhere other than my local town/work/supermarket, I want a walk along the coast.

Re: It's the little things you miss...
It's odd, because I am not someone who enjoys shopping, but I am desperate to be able to potter about the shops and pick up a few non-essential bits and pieces. I am sick to death of trying to ascertain the size and quality of stuff online, and reading a million reviews before committing to purchase anything. The last time I was able to do it was about October maybe, and it was still shit because of all the queuing / dodging oblivious twats / getting steamed up glasses. My friend is having a baby soon and I want to go out and fondle weeny clothes, not send yet another gift that I never see myself.
I also really miss just getting on with stuff, like I need a tree taking down in the garden but I'm paralysed about calling anyone in case they're not going to observe social distancing etc.

We've been talking about this recently as well.
Last week I had a day off and old me would have had a mini spa day or lazy lunch or at least a coffee with cake while reading my book.

I miss window shopping then coffee and cake somewhere. I miss seeing my Aunt. Deciding on a whim to drive up to my friends for the night. Seeing the kids socialise and have fun.

I miss the sea and I miss sitting with friends having tea and cake at my favourite cafe. I miss long walks with hills and geocaches.
I went to town at the weekend to exchange something that had been delivered in error and sneaked a browse in the book department of WHSmiths. It was lovely!

The mental risk assessment of everything! I miss just living a life and not worrying that it's inadvertantly going to kill someone else, or to a lesser extent, that people will think I'm a hideous human being for sending my child back to school or going for a walk.
I miss my family and my FRIENDS and making plans and actually believing they might happen and walking in a crowd of people. I miss seeing other people having a good time, things I never really valued in any way at all- like seeing people cheering at a football match when their team scored. I miss walking round in this city and seeing it alive with people. I miss sitting on the wall in the playground outside school chatting to a friend and waiting for the kids to come out. I miss that SO much.

Re: It's the little things you miss...
To me none of this stuff is little (well, apart from walking in a straight line ) - it's what makes life worth living as far as I'm concerned. Time with friends, weekends away and changes of scenery, meals out - all the good stuff. One of the many reasons I made the very deliberate decision not to have a family was in part because I enjoy doing what I want, when I want so much, and having had that taken away over the past year has been increasingly difficult to handle.
But aside from that, I'd love to go round a museum or gallery at the moment. Just by myself, drinking it in.

God yes, Del, I haven't been to a gallery for the longest time. In my normal adult life I'd go roughly monthly, it's part of the reason for living in London. I wish I'd gone last summer but it seemed such a faff to prebook and have a timed slot and a part of me felt I might as well wait a little longer and just go for a spontaneous mooch like I used to.

I think "she lived for a spontaneous mooch" would be a fantastic epitaph

I miss watching A’s football matches (although I can live without training).

I'm not going to be a dick and queue up outside Wetherspoons at 9am on opening day, but I definitely feel the same about how I was last summer- we held back on loads of things for longer than was necessary and I'm not going to do that this time, as long as I feel personally ok about it, and it is legally allowed, I'll take the opportunity, accept the distancing and the queuing and the prebooking and the opinions of others and go.Tabitha wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 11:49 am God yes, Del, I haven't been to a gallery for the longest time. Chatting with randoms in the work kitchen and not having to try to plan shopping with military precision to avoid having to buy food with a child in tow.

I went to galleries a few times when there was a window of opportunity last year, and it was so lovely. I can't wait to get back to that.
Other than that, all the usual, meals and drinks out, hanging out with my sons (indoors!) and seeing my sisters. I miss walking across London Bridge on my way to and from work, and lunchtime walks in the City.

Re: It's the little things you miss...
Being in different places with different people each week, through work. I miss that so hard. I miss train journeys to random places. My phone threw up a "1 year ago" photo which I took of freebie wine and a nice menu on Eurostar. I was travelling business premier because it was a last minute 3 day job in Brussels and that was all that was available with one day's notice. And that pretty much sums up EVERYTHING I miss about my pre-covid work life.
And, yes being able to act on a whim for leisure stuff - make a decision the day before or on the day to go somewhere without having to deal with online pre-booking being sold out.

I really miss this. I used to chat to all sorts of people I don't work directly with, and I wouldn't necessarily pick up the phone to them now, but I still miss the chitchat.
I also miss being able to go out for the day and know I'll be able to stop for something to eat/find a loo. I am 80 .

Yes to toilets! Having to say no to a cup of tea when garden visits are possible, because you can't afford to need a pee.
