Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
I forgot to say: when we were in Somerset, we ate at Osip in Bruton and I think it was the best meal I've ever had. It was £££ though.
It's all local and seasonal and there's no menu, you just get whatever it is they're cooking that week (with vegan/veggie options also).

It's lovely there. Much fancier than it used to be though - quite different. It was my first meal out last year after lockdown no. 1.

That always looks so nice but it’s a gamble as to whether they’ll have anything veggie. Glad it was nice though.
Last week I was taken to Lyle’s in Shoreditch for my birthday lunch.

It was really nice. The food was genuinely delicious, and the staff were all lovely too. They said they’d been doing a roaring trade over the past couple of months (and I did get a bit twitchy about catching something).

Oh lovely! I couldn’t get a table there a few weeks back when I was staying in Shoreditch.

I went to a new café in the “Outwoods” today, a woodland on the outskirts of Loughborough. The café bakes all its own bread, and I had their version of a McMuffin with Red Leicester cheese and homemade ketchup, and also a forest berry cheesecake cruffin. Oh my.

Pip, I absolutely NEED to know where that is! The place we used to go closed down years ago and I’ve never found a good replacementPippedydeadeye wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:18 pm I went to a new café in the “Outwoods” today, a woodland on the outskirts of Loughborough. Re: Where have you eaten out lately?
We finally made it to Oklava a couple of weeks ago, which was fabulous. I'm tempted by her books, having tried a cauli recipe that is part of another book I have, plus her medjool date butter - does anyone have any of them, I know there are a few fans of her booking here.
And today we had an amazing lunch, with excellent wine pairings, at Akoko, which has a menu rooted in West African cooking. If anyone is looking for place to treat themselves I really recommend it.

Mr P and I went to Sessions Arts Club for lunch today in Clerkenwell - the building and restaurant were amazing (all distressed peeling pastel plaster - like an Italian palazzo) and it felt like a real occasion. Food was very good but no better than places like Lupins or Naughty Piglets (small seasonal sharing plates). The wines were really interesting though (Mr P had a glass of a greek white which was lovely) and I had a lovely rhubarb bellini. Overally I'd definitely recommend, and I quite fancy trying a later dinner service there.

I’ve been there and agree, it feels very treaty. We had to have our dinner at some ridiculously early hour though, there were no civilised bookings for months.
Earlier this week I went to Westerns Laundry in Holloway which was excellent. We shared lots of fish and finished with a completely fabulous rum baba.

Any recommendations for a pre theatre dinner in June, Soho area? Good veggie selection, always like a bit of Middle Eastern food. We have been to The Palomar, one of Ottolenghi's and Bancone before.
