Re: Early Pregnancy Thread
I got to see our babies again this afternoon It was SO nice to see them waving and doing wee kicks - I think especially after the missed miscarriage, I can’t really trust that symptoms = continuing pregnancy.
They’re measuring 11+6 and everything seems to be going well - the scan was only supposed to be to confirm they’re over 10 weeks, but the sonographer spent ages trying to determine whether they were MCDA or MCMA - for a good five minutes she was convinced they were MCMA but then she thinks she MIGHT have seen a thin membrane between them, so she took an image and told me to show the twin clinic next week.
The blood tests should be back in a week or so - I’m feeling so much better about the whole thing, best £400 we’ve spent.

You’re all very kind about the cuteness of my black and white rough blobs
L was a bit gutted he couldn’t make it to the scan, but my Mum came instead, which was really nice - I think scans have come on a fair bit since her last baby 42 years ago ;)

Awww, lovely pic!
Your hospital's set up is quite different from mine, as I didn't have a twin clinic, so all my scans were done by the same people who scanned all the pregnant women (bar one to measure my cervix which a consultant did). You'd think they could do the nuchal test at the twin clinic if that's the one that's in the right time frame!
Glad you've got the NIPT, I don't regret paying for mine even though I didn't need to as the NHS results weren't high risk, but it was worth it to get the early reassurance. Will you find out the sex? That also saves you having to pick out four name options!

Re: Early Pregnancy Thread
I think what’s confusing things is that usually people get booked in, have the 12 week scan, find out it’s twins then start the twin care pathway then. Because I found out early I was having twins I still had to go through the pretence of contacting my local midwifery team (who took a week to get back to me) to then refer me back to the hospital (who took two weeks to look at the referral). For whatever reason, EPU were able to refer me to the twin clinic and make my appointments the same day, but couldn’t make the standard appointments at the same time.
Twin clinic is Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I’m pretty confident it’s the same people who scan singletons the rest of the week, they just have longer appointment times on twin days. And “twin counselling” whatever that is. There’s a fair chance the folk who see me on Tuesday will be able to do the nuchal test, but no one could tell me for sure, and I go on holiday Thursday morning so I’d have no time to arrange anything afterwards.
And yes, we’ll be finding out the sex - I think we’ve had enough surprises

Yes, twins are completely mind-blowing! That scan is so precious - your two tiny people floating around together! When I had Neil at 41 my fear was that I'd be expecting twins - but I was also a tiny bit disappointed there was just one of him.
So pleased you got your scan and your NIPT will be soon. A calm mummy can only be good for the tiny people.
