Ooooooo. Are those photos from someone's Ring doorbell?

I am attending an online conference today. The likelihood of me being able to stay awake for it, when I'm at home on my sofa, is remote.

It's full Wizard of Oz!

Did you have to go to take shelter in a windowless room?

That looks big! Was it in your 'hood? So terrifying!

All we had was a minor thunderstorm and some very high winds the next day.

It was definitely in my hood - TWO of them, both with touchdowns about a mile from my house. The sirens sounded, we ran down and hid in our windowless room under the stairs in the basement with our dogs who had immense gas. Then there was an all clear. Less than an hour later, the sirens went off again - that part felt surreal. Massive damage, but no fatalities, not even any serious injuries, so all in all, a very lucky town. We didn't have any damage which was very lucky since there were two near us, one with 135 mph winds and it was on the ground for 11 miles.

Oh wow! Very lucky indeed. The randomness of the path of destruction is hard to get to grips with.
Was it loud in your basement? (Aside from the gas. :)) )

No, there were really strong winds and then just silence. Basements are pretty safe for tornadoes so I wasn't terrified once everyone in my family confirmed they had taken cover.

This is what I wrote on the daily thread on Tuesday:
We have a tornado watch here, so all sports are cancelled tonight which means we have a free and easy evening ahead. Unless there's a tornado.

Famous last words! :))

I haven't hidden out in the basement for a tornado warning in many years. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

Tonight might be nicer, with the possibility of northern lights. :fc:

You're probably in a better spot to catch them but we've been told we might get a glimpse too! :fc:
