Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
I really couldn't tell whether Pip's was a new build! It is absolutely soulless, even the garden. I think someone could make it amazing but so much would need ripping out.
It does have a staircase of dreams though.

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
“Immaculate throughout” It was definitely decorated internally following a 2007 brief of “bright floral repeating/stripy wallpaper” feature wall.
I mean, I absolutely love a bit of colour but none of that flows nicely and just needs a Mr Bean firebomb back to white.
They seem to have done something to the front that removes all the character/age and it now looks like a weird corporate faux Georgian office.

These are the type of buildings on the business park in Chester, a couple more extensions and they’ll be there

If I wanted £2.5m for my townhouse in Stoke Newington, I might bestir myself to tidy away my knickers drying in the bathroom. And tidy the pantry shelves. No?

Sports Direct mugs  It’s as if they’ve forgotten to move bags and shit as the photographer has gone through the house.

The first few photos I was thinking what a lovely house, but then it all went to shit.
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Exactly. My EA photographer when we moved last time made us move EVERYTHING. I followed him round with a washing basket moving unnecessary shit and standing in a different room.

I want to know what's wrong with the lowest pantry shelf.Livilla wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:15 pm If I wanted £2.5m for my townhouse in Stoke Newington, I might bestir myself to tidy away my knickers drying in the bathroom. And tidy the pantry shelves. No?

There's something a bit sad about that house. It looks like it was much loved once but has got a bit much for someone now. The garden especially.

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
How much will they be paying that Estate Agent? £25k?
For that money he should have shifted the knickers and jackets for them!

It looks like it’s rented out but it didn’t say so in the blurb. Or maybe their cleaners have gone on strike & the poor rich people can’t possibly do it themselves

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
It says available for the first time in a generation so let's say they bought it in the, what, late 80s? It wouldn't have required the equivalent of £2.5m back then, nothing close. Stoke Newington had not up and come at that point. That's the thing with the London property market. Owning a million plus house doesn't automatically say anything about your wealth outside what the house is worth, not if you've had it for a while. Obviously they'll be sweet after it's sold. :))
It really doesn't look like a rental to me, it looks like a tired family home full of years of accumulated stuff. I wondered if they'd just had the loft reinsulated and boarded and couldn't be arsed to put everything back up there just to have to drag it all back down to move. Or they're trying to showcase the space for someone wanting to convert it.

There are a more of photos of the loft than you'd expect, really. It's a gorgeous house.

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
That's true. Stoke Newington used to be where estate agents would fob you off to when you wanted Angel -ish. I knew one person who lived there because you got more for your money but it was regarded as a massive compromise and no-one wanted to go over because it was too much effort and nothing was there. Now look at it.

It’s so easy to get to the City from there as long as you don’t mind taking the bus. It’s absolutely not for me, but I can see the appeal.

The gorgeous Poirot house down the road from us in the Surrey Hills is for sale
It was used in at least two Suchet episodes.
It's a rubbish listing for such a amazing house. Only 17 photos? When suburban semis sometimes have about 30.
