IWLTS I don’t think a cafe on campus is really an appropriate venue for my annual review.

I usually take my staff to the café if they want to go. Or at least buy them a coffee. I like to get out of the office if possible.

The last time I was meeting with our MD, she dragged me off to a bar (for a soft drink) as she'd been in back-to-back meetings. It wasn't for a catch up though, I'd been waiting weeks to present a proposal to her that I couldn't even access from the bar so had to wing it, and couldn't remember the cost of one of the options. :panic:

But yeah, I think an annual review is a bit more formal than a general catch up and I'd prefer to be in a room, or at least avoiding the on-site cafe.

We quite often have catch ups in coffee shops, I’m down with that. Discussing my strengths and weaknesses and the performance of my direct reports and other colleagues in a public place where there are usually a load of other people I know just doesn’t seem appropriate. Apparently it’s a thing my boss does though so I may just have to suck it up :verm:

I always make sure we’re in a quiet corner but you’re right.

IWLTS, a bit of prior communication and planning would be useful. We were well on our way for a day out when we got a text from MrW's sister in law saying they were in our city and suggesting meeting up. I am sure they think because we are child free, that we have no life and have no plans etc. I am sure his brother will be ringing their parents to complain about our behavior.

Rude is an understatement

I hope you didn’t change your plans! Even if I think my friends (child free or not) have no plans, I assume that IS their plan.

Nope, we carried on our merry way and had a great day out. I made a point in our return message along the lines of "wish we had known sooner of your plans". Hopefully he'll get the hint,if not then it will be a more direct approach.

My brother used to do that, but in reverse - assumption that because of the small chaps we were just always sat in the house awaiting him to announce his arrival at short notice, and then being peed off that I wouldn’t change/cancel existing plans to suit. The whopper.

I think what you meant to say was ‘thank you for going out of your way to drop my present off. It’s much appreciated’

If you're talking about the friend who was not at work, she may have taken a sickie in order to have the day off.

IWLTS yes, I know much of our attention lately has gone to our friend who has just become a widower but you know, his wife died, which is pretty huge. So stop inventing dramas that don't exist so we pay you more attention. You're a 48-year-old woman FFS and I love you but there is not very much more of this I can take.

IWLTS What was the point of my double fucking checking before I booked my accommodation?

We’re doing a sponsored walk in 2 weeks. The majority live within public transport reach of the starting point (albeit it’s 2 hours from London!) but I’ll need to stay over all weekend. I booked my Airbnb after confirming we were definitely getting the bus back to the starting point together and eating there.

Today I’m told that we’re eating where the walk finishes, a 40 minute bus ride away from my Airbnb. I double checked because I wanted to be able stay close to where we were eating.

I am very tempted to just fuck the whole thing off. I’m the only person who’s posted the fundraising link anywhere and P is the only person who has sponsored us so far. 😂

I would, Wenders, and I'm very sniffy about people not keeping to commitments. That's really selfish of whoever has rearranged the eating venue. Bin them off and explain why.

I would bin it off too, Wendy. I wish I could bin off my next social commitment...

IWLTS: Why the very hell could you not have told us what to expect months ago?

We just received notice in an email to all the guests that we will need cocktail attire at this very expensive (and for us to attend) wedding. This is in addition to the wedding clothing we've already purchased. I am the sort (sloth) to have an extensive collection of "loungewear", a fair amount of business casual, a couple of suits suitable for my rare appearances in court and a half dozen sundresses. I don't have a fucking cocktail dress and absolutely no time to go shopping. I have been asking for details for three months and they have been planning this for well over a year.

WTF, five?! I’d be so tempted to turn up in my loungewear just to piss them off!
