It’s clear the freezer week, though there’s a couple of new recipes in there too.

Paella
JPs and taco beans
Meatballs in tomato sauce and pasta
Peanut butter fried rice
Mixed bean chilli and rice
Shepherds pie
Hummus and tomato pasta

This sounds SO GOOD!

I am really trying with meal planning but S forgot to tell me he was out last night to I scrapped my planned meal and made Anna Jones one pot lemon, kale and tomato spaghetti which both kids loved. It was so easy too so YAY!

I'm drawing a blank for tonight and I am now having a friend and her daughter (G's BFF) over for dinner on Friday night when S is out (again!) so need to have a think.

It was lovely. I used to make it years ago when Monk was a tiny wee toddler but then he became resistant to courgettes so I forgot about it. The courgettes are sliced not grated.

My meals plans are fluid so even though I make one every week, life means it's not always adhered to. Last night I became enraged with the broccoli - for broc anchovy pasta - because it had some kind of tiny black fly infestation so I have to make katsu chicken burgers with kimchi and skinny fries. :ready:

I want to try that one pot Anna Jones thing again. The only time I made it I used a different salt to the one she says and it was completely inedible. I think I almost sodium poisoned us with one mouthful.

I ingored her instructions on olive oil and salt. I just went with what seemed like a sensible amount. I did really like the texture of spaghetti cooked this way.

I saw a recipe yesterday where you cook the tubes of pasta (rigatoni?) cool until the pasta is completely dry and then fry it before mixing in the sauce. Definitely going on my list to try soon.

I ended up making Ottolenghi many beans (green, hilda, edamame, sugar snap) with basmati rice last night.

Tonight it's tacos! Options will be Salad for President's pulled mushrooms, Anna Jones black beans, Wahaca style corn, plus all the usual fixings - pico de gallo, guac, radishes, sliced jalapeños, shredded cabbage, cheese and of course loads of tortilla chips. I'm going to make a dessert too but not sure what yet. Hoping inspiration will strike soon.

Emma! Is the wild garlic chicken pie you do the Rosie Birkett one?

I’ve been to the woods to get wild garlic as my garden garlic doesn’t yet yield enough.

Yes it is!!!! I actually just bought some wild garlic from WF at lunchtime. But I’m going to make it into a pesto to preserve it as I’ve got dill overload!

So jealous that you can forage for it - there’s loads!

Great thanks. I'm going to make the pie tomorrow. :ready: Today is washing the garlic, then butter and pesto.

I'm very lucky there are three woods I can walk to where it grows abundantly. There's probably more but those are the places I've found.

God, I love wild garlic. The smell of it in the evening is just astonishing.

Yeah, I found one of the areas one spring when I was cycling through it and could smell the delicious aroma, then looked around and saw it everywhere.

I was going to ask this! I have promised to make the pie in exchange for a lift to the wild garlic woods (it's walkable but not in a busy work week) :))

I love the smell, taste, look of wild garlic but George (who does the heavy lifting for me in the garden) banned me from planting any under pain of death  Too many hours spent trying to dig it out for other people when it's gone mental have scarred him for life!

Imagine your own supply though :hbeat:

ETA I didn't read properly and missed that you'd planted your own Dics - ignore me and my big gob, I'm sure you will utilise your patch to its fullest extent and it'll never get a chance to spread :ready:

:)) I do want it to spread a bit down there. It is spreading but I only planted two leaves I had with roots on three years ago  so this year there are six small patches dotted in the bed but one patch is only one tiny leaf  three of the patches formed quite decent sized clumps this year. It would only be enough to make a risotto or two though.

Ah, I will share this information with George and ask again then :))

This place gets huge accolades Wendy, although I haven't had a chance to try it yet. You're pretty spoiled for choice though!

It is spreading and will spread but I'm happy for that to happen.

Moussaka made with wild garlic bechamel sauce
Wild garlic & chicken pie
Two-cheese toasted sandwich made with - you guessed it - wild garlic butter*

*my recent toasted sandwiches have been amazing using butter mixed with mustard on the outside

It took me ages to thoroughly wash the garlic so I didn’t make anything yesterday. Today I made four sausages (500g) of butter and the pie. Emma, it’s so lush! We had half for dinner but I keep thinking about the other half. Sadly uneaten.

I’ll make pesto tomorrow and I’m going to pickle the buds.
