Do you keep squash* in the fridge

Post by ParisGal »

* Cordial / diluting juice, not the vegetable.

I recently lost a bottle of non-alcoholic gin to mould, and have since realised that all my squashes are labelled to be kept in the fridge and consumed rapidly after opening. This is both normal sugar ones and low sugar.

I've never put squash in the fridge before, and don't have the space to do so really. Is this necessary and are my squashes full of invisible mould?

No ! I don't actually drink it , but we always have some because others in the house do, and I would never think to put it in the fridge!

No, and I just checked the cheap supermarket stuff and there's no mention of where to store it at all. Probably enough preservatives in it to not need to worry.

We don’t have any cordial/squash but I don’t think I’d keep it in the fridge.

Whereas ketchup is definitely the fridge, if we want to start that conversation too

We keep Ikea elderflower cordial and Robinsons squash on the counter. We do go through it fast though.

I just looked, and the cordial says to refrigerate once opened, and use within 30 days. Robinsons says no such thing.

No, I don't keep it in the fridge, and I've never known it go off, even though a bottle lasts ages these days.

I’d probably keep a Belvoir (or equivalent) in the fridge as it’s meant to be drink chilled and diluted anyway.

However, standard diluting juice is in the cupboard and drunk unless it looks manky or Mr G is checking dates.

Cold ketchup. Although I will entertain moving jam to the fridge in the hottest part of the summer.

No, I keep all cordials out of the fridge. We keep ketchup in the fridge in this house but I never did growing up. I don’t love ketchup like the others do.

I only have squash for Tom and for when I have a bad cold (hot Vimto is a magic cure), and I don't keep it in the fridge; it doesn't say I should on the label so I don't.

Though I did buy some Rocks squash for him the other week, and that did need to be kept in the fridge as it doesn't have the preservatives that Vimto does.
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Same.

Squash doesn't though and neither do cordials. I wasn't aware that cordials could go off.

I don't really have squash drinks or cordials though very rarely sometime Monk will want Vimto. It would remain in the cupboard. I also do not like tomato sauce but it lives in the cupboard like it did in the 70s. Same as brown sauce word for word. They probably are from the 70s to be fair.

Jam, chutney, salad cream are in the fridge.

I also hate ketchup. Marmite, hazelnut spread and pb are kept in the cupboard.

I just checked and the elderflower and ginger cordials do both say they want to live in the fridge.

 We currently have a huge jar of hazelnut spread, which is vanishing at an alarming rate. We keep in in the cupboard next all of our many nut butters.

We get through Nutella like you would not believe. Though Squeak now prefers any old non-branded, not hazelnutty chocolate spread. I never thought I’d see the day.

Jam goes in the fridge too.
