Wahey! Show us yer.... tin openers?

Post by Topcat »

Times have indeed, changed.

I need a new can opener and am looking for a reasonable one that isn't electric. What have you got, lads?

Bins next, TC? What’s your washing line like? :))

This opener is ace and the easiest I ever used. And it does that thing where it makes the cut edges not sharp.

I was just thinking yesterday that I haven’t had to use a can opener in years as they seem to have ring pulls. I did on Saturday though to open condensed milk for my key lime pie, with the can opener that I bought to take to university about 30 years ago!

Its true that they aren't really that much of a thing anymore, but I had a ring pull break on me last week and it made unfeasibly angry when I also discovered that my can opener was no longer up to the job.

30 years is good! I am hoping that this next one that I buy will last long enough to see me off so I never have to think about this kind of rubbish again.

We have this Joseph Joseph one I don't recollect ever having another one so it's probably around 15 years or more old

This is also good news and potentially in the zone where I will no longer need it.

This is relevant to my interests as the one we have is utter shite.

I also have an OXO good grips one; it's about ten years old now and still going strong.

(what have we become? )

I’ve got the Kuhn Rikon one as well. As Edith says, it basically opens the tins by unsealing the join, so you don’t end up with a sharp edge on either the tin or the lid. It’s very good.

I have the OXO one, it seems to only ever be needed to open cans of coconut milk, and it does that well. Easily 15 years old.

:dotty:

It’s also good for opening ring pull cans with the pointy bit at the other end.

I've had this crocodile tin opened for about 20 years. Then I use the others for ring pulls and jars/bottles.

I've got one of those jar lid openers too but I can't use it for love nor money. I have never successfully opened a lid with it.
