What are these?

Incorporating hobbies, computer games, Verm's Interesting Links and anything else you can think of excluding football and other spectator sports because these belong in the Sport section, but allowing sports you play yourself with your own body as that counts as a pastime.

What are these?

Post by SunnyMum »

My Fil gave me a wee gift in secret, ie he hid it under a table mat so his wife and daughters couldn't see. Then in good old fashioned hushed voice and a finger to his his lips he whispered "this is for you. You can use it for your crochet. I made these for my mother." He is 94. His mother died of hunger in WW2. I have NO IDEA what to do with it. But I can't not do anything with it. He says it was a template. HELP. Do any of you know what it is?

Could it be a wool winder to stop tangles when using different colours?

Is it a stand for hooks/needles? Or a needle gauge? There are round cutouts at the base of the petals.

I have no idea. The only clue I have is "a template ". He said "gabarit" in French.

2 are identical sizes, one in slightly smaller than the others.

I’m wondering whether there could be a stick of some kind through the centre to make it stand up.

Highly likely, but I can't see how to use the template.

Yes, I thought that they could be forr a sewing project rather than crochet.
He diid say it was for my crochet, though.
Having said that, he did once make me a wooden blocking board for my "embroidery ". Maybe he got confused again.
I'm going to have to ask him, I think. Which is a shame because I wanted to make something as a surprise gift for him.

I do quilt! I think Cerise's etsy link has solved the mystery.
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Thanks all.
