Press here have said the German police are likely to have some kind of physical evidence pointing to reservoir. Also it’s his special place.

Urgh. That makes me feel sick.

They searched there once before, but hopefully they have more specific info.

I've never believed Madeleine's parents killed her so it would be good to finally exonerate them.

Obviously I’d rather she was alive but if she is dead, I hope they find her body so her parents can have an answer.

This is why the police are searching there. (from The Times)

Like the Moors murderers. If they don't find her they may find another victim. I read an article which said that PdL was frequented by paedophiles due to the number of families who holiday there.

The police found other murder victims when they were looking on the moors?

Well I actually meant they found photos of their 'special place' but yes they did (AFAIR).

Surely that's true of the vast majority of resorts throughout the med though, in school holiday periods? Lots of families. Family friendly is the default (having spent all my holiday hunts looking for the opposite) not the exception. I don't doubt predators are drawn to anywhere that fulfills their fucked up needs but I can't see why PdL would stand out. It sounds a bit sensationalist to paint it as some paedo hotbed.

Isn't it the case that most don't actively 'hunt' but are more opportunistic?

It would be a noncefest outside of Butlins every week of the summer otherwise.

I quite agree - I think they meant that there were quite a few known ones hanging around there though. I'd need to find the link to clarify.

At the risk of going all Silent Witness and claiming experience I don't have (just from reading), I think they are 'patient' and observe hence children disappear so very quickly. Sorry, this is horrible.

Sorry - it was Portugal not PdL in particular - they don't have a sex offenders' register at all but it is also easy for paedophiles to take children to other countries (which I can't remember now. :ella: ).

It's a bit of both isn't it? History sadly tells us that without safeguarding they will go where they can get ready access to their prey but beyond that it's also opportunistic in the moment.
