Who challenges it (that's a genuine question, I literally have no idea who polices this stuff :? ) The Supreme Court Judges are Republicans, thus in Trump's pocket, and I'm not sure (like here, with Brexit) it's easy for an ordinary citizen to bring a case. Possibly someone else could bring one? Law firm? Wealthy person? Both countries have checks and balances but they seem to either be bought out (judges), weak (Labour) or a small, wealthy, brave (to withstand the media's abuse) group of regular people (Gina Miller and team, Jolyon Maugham QC who's bringing the case in Dublin.)

For so long it's seemed there's always been a higher place for a problem to be challenged. Yet when it occurs so high up... where next?

It may also be that unless they literally tampered with the voting machines, they can only be criticised for influence and not for actually rigging the election. The emails were pretty dull reading with nothing truly explosive. The false headlines and hysteria that came after swung voter's views but it could be argued the people nonetheless had 'free choice' which way to vote, especially those who handed Trump victory by voting for nonsensical third parties. Democracy's gotta factor in people reading dumb shit on the internet, and even if the hack hadn't happened, there'd have been plenty of that about.

If it's any consolation, the internet is mocking the sparse-looking crowd (numbering in the 100s) at Trump's shindig compared to Obama's, a sea of 400,000 people.

It's going to be a hell of a four years for the history books, isn't it?

Perhaps he's more malleable alive than dead. People will be using him to get what they want. He isn't a right-wing Christian fundamentalist, but he'll give them the schools, for example, and their abortion ban. He'd probably find it inconvenient if medical care becomes a global disgrace and the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières have to rush in, but if that's what big business wants, that's what they'll get. He's also very thick and won't question this stuff.

Pence is a fundie, but he's not as intellectually challenged.

I am pretending nothing of importance is happening today, or I'll end up crying. Also, S ate two of my courgettes last night :verm:.

I am watching the coverage while I have a cup of tea. The action so far: after the traditional church service (attended by the while Trump clan, including the Jewish ones :)) ) Trump and Melania turned up at the White House for the also traditional tea with the outgoing president and First Lady. Melania, who looks lovely, hopped out of her car with a whopping great Tiffany's box which she presented to Michelle on the White House steps. No-one knew what to do with it as they had to line up for a group photo, and there was some cute fannying around (Obama aide fail, someone should have dashed out to take it ).

Can someone tell me what opinion I'm supposed to have of Melania, please? Why is she married to him? Thank you.

I think she's the least of our problems.

It's also rumoured that she was a paid escort and whilst there is a school of thought that we shouldn't judge her for that, seeing as women selling themselves allows men to see all women as property to be paid for which is immensely damaging, I would judge her. If true [/disclaimer]. Also, she married a toxic narcissist (tm The Boss,) so regardless of her previous employment, she has terrible judgement.

Turning up with a Tiffany box is a little flashy/trashy. I'm sure there was a nice sentiment behind it :uhh:

It was certainly completely unexpected!

With Melania, I think it's that age old question: "What first attracted you, a not very successful immigrant model, to multi-millionaire Donald Trump?".

Hello. I've cried at music twice today which isn't a good start really.

I don't think I can actually look at anything.
Half-ten?! Half-ten?! I've never been up at half-ten! What happens?

Oh, fair enough. I were curious. In case there was some kind of backstory where he saved her puppy from drowning or something. Did he have the combover/ toupee when she married him? :look:

She married a 58 year old billionaire who wasn't exactly famous for being pleasant. I figure it's an arrangement. Like Heffner. Like that Aussie bloke who keeps his girlfriends on leashes. She wants security and a gold-plated apartment and stuff, he... well, if anything I'm surprised he married at all - what does he get out of it? I guess the 'prestige' of being married when he's courting the Christian right? I think that's a thing. Even in business circles.

But she seems sad. That video that went out a day or two ago, where he "prodded" her into speaking at an event. She shakes her head, he beckons, she shakes her head again, then his arm swings really aggressively. This time she speaks. Given the media has already had a few sneers at her accent, her English and the stolen speech, I'm not surprised she didn't want to. I feel sorry for her. She's probably gone into this eyes wide open, but still. So while I don't wanna fall into that 'libtard' trap of telling other women what to do and that only one path is correct, everyone's got free choice etc... I still want to take her aside and mutter "You don't have to stay with this jerk, y'know."

I've had tea and cake but haven't had a courgette since before Christmas, so stop showing off with your courgette talk.

I'm not watching the news. I can't. He's a twat. I do hope someone shoots him.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.
