I was just thinking he's becoming the Farage of Scottish politics
Exactly what I was thinking.

Bat Macdui wrote: Fri Mar 26, 2021 6:14 pm How likely is it that Joanna Cherry will cross over to Alba and stand on a manifesto of protecting single sex spaces? Because that would be interesting.
Haven’t they just got rid of single-sex spaces and sex-based rights in Scotland? It’s horrific if so. Nobody seems to be talking about it.

Everything he does right now is motivated by spite and a determination to gain some further vindication for himself. I don't know why* he doesn't just fuck and retire quietly.

*ego, obviously

I saw last night that AFI (Action for Independence) have decided to stand down all 42 of their candidates to try to maximise votes for Alba in the list votes.

Naively, I presumed all pro indy parties were behind the SNP but I guess this isn't true?

The Greens are pro Indy and they are broadly behind SNP, the SNP are a minority govt so they often rely on the Greens to get legislation passed as they (Greens) have a couple of seats.

The other ones have no seats so less influence plus its all a bit "People's Front of Judea".

AFI were a list only party, as are Alba, so I think AFI are trying to ensure the 2nd votes aren't split across parties. I think they would all suggest first votes still go to the SNP.

I have no idea who my votes will go to. I really don't feel like I can support the SNP anymore.

Do you mind me asking why this is? Feel free to ignore me if it's too personal!

No, not too personal. Women's rights, basically. I want independence but not at any cost. I don't want them to think a vote for them means I'm supporting their policies. Honestly, I'm torn about what to do and who to vote for.

Usually it would have been SNP 1 with Greens 2.

If anyone has any input, I'm all ears!

I get that, the women's rights stuff horrifies me too. The problem is I can't see any other party that is offering an alternative but I may not have looked hard enough. Hell will freeze over though before I'd vote for Alba, and vindicate that creep Salmond, of that I am certain.

There isn't another party offering an alternative. For the lists there's ISP, but I know nothing about them, other than them wanting to protect women's rights I need to look into them further. I've read, on twitter a lot of people (women in particular) planning on a protest vote 1 and ISP 2. I don't know that's the right way to go either.

For Women Scot have just tweeted to say that although they are a non politically aligned group:

"We do hope to get info and replies from candidates about their stance on women's rights and safe spaces. We are looking forward to seeing the manifestos and we will be analysing them all from the lens of women's rights."

So they are worth following for an update if you don't already.
