In woodland. So Kent, then. Not London. That's pretty damning.

Her poor family.

I’d missed them finding a body. That poor woman and her family.

Caitlin Moran tweeted this, and it's so true:
Being a woman: my "outside" day finishes at sundown. If I haven't taken the dog for a walk/jogged by then, I can't. In the winter, it often means the choice between exercise and work. Today, I had to stop work at 4 to exercise. My husband worked until 6, and is now off for a run
My niece lives in central Manchester and has been followed on more than one occassion. She doesn't leave her flat after dusk any more.

I can't imagine what her family and friends are going through. For some reason I'm shocked that people on here 'know' her via their own friends; London isn't that big a place, I suppose. But it brings it much closer to home. I walk alone, but am very aware of my vulnerability and 'womanness' when doing so.

It's utterly shocking.

I will walk and have walked by myself round the park near us with one earbud in and either a key or my water bottle in hand. I think I was out later than normal in winter and had taken a torch just in case and felt extremely vulnerable as it was getting dark. I get irate with Gannet when he says he's not coming with me when it's then too late for me to go on my own.

I hate the fact that women can't go outside when they want without having to take precautions or without fear.

How many men walk with a key between their fingers when they are out?
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

This was what I was getting at. They don't learn to think like that from anyone or anywhere. They're not made to feel responsible for other people's behaviour towards them. It stinks.

Tbf, to say it again, we don't know she was randomly abducted. I'd put money on her knowing him.

I thought we were just chewing the fat on that, didn't think it was definite?

I haven't seen mention of any ex boyfriend in any reports. The policeman and the woman from the same address are the only ones who've been arrested.

Well this is ending in the worst possible way. That poor, poor woman and her family. And the friend she visited must be distraught, too.

Twitter is apparently blowing up with stories of women talking about how unsafe they feel in public (again). Fairly sure this ain’t the first time. I am definitely more wary about this the older I get (perhaps ironically) than when I was younger and more blasé. But I wouldn’t have thought twice about walking home in London at that hour myself.

No fucking wonder so few assaults on women get prosecuted really, is it, when male police officers are literally part of the problem.

It’s not even a body; they said “human remains”. It’s horrific.

I'm so confused; I wonder where I got ex boyfriend from.

I think human remains is the standard delicate term for body.

No Lily, a report I read said it will take some time to get a definite ID on it which makes me think it’s not possible to have a family member confirm it.

It’s sickening.

No, when they find a body, they call it a body.

The statement quoted on the BBC says "what appears to be human remains." That's not a body. That poor woman and if you could think of the absolute worst nightmare scenario to torture her family surely this whole thing would be it.
