It’s confusing because the listings and tickets all say ‘canoe’ but it is kayak.

The chap with the squeegee roller on the triple jump run-up has a thankless task with the heavy rain!
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

I’ll bet you’ve done all the obvious tourist things before. I have no real tips other than to hang around and soak it up. There’s a Terrasse des Jeux at the Hôtel de Ville which is near Place de la Concorde; free to get in and there’s a bar, big screen & activities for kids. You can’t get very close to the flame unless you’ve booked and we couldn’t see any dates remaining. The best view was from the Louvre gardens. It rises just after sunset.
The volunteers are all super friendly and helpful. I’ve not been to Paris for over 20 years and it felt very different to then.

I was so happy about Rhys McClenaghan. He trained in his back garden during Covid. Amazing gymnast.

I've drunk bought athletic tickets to the Paralympics
ETA I bought athletic tickets for the London 2012 Paralympics and whist the boys didn't really understand the significance, it was one of the best days I've ever had

Ah this is good to know, actually. I hadn’t thought about needing tickets for the flame! Will keep an eye on that site now that I know about it just in case. I thought about booking an event for Monday morning but think I want to keep that free for a bit of wandering about and orientation. Soaking it all in as you say. The terrasse des jeux sounds ideal. I’m sure it’s always busy!Pippedydeadeye wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:40 pmI’ll bet you’ve done all the obvious tourist things before. I have no real tips other than to hang around and soak it up. Yeah I don’t need to do general Paris touristy things, though seeing a few sights along the way is of course grand. I probably won’t even bother with a gallery!

Tbh - if it wasn't for the foot I'd probably be tempted to do the same as Epp as it just looks brilliant! I drunk booked tickets to the Athletics in London 2012 and then had to get emergency childcare!

Absolutely dismal performance by the GB men’s hockey team unable to convert a 1 (and even 2) man advantage for three quarters of the match into a lead. We have missed so many shots and the ones on target their amazing goalie keeps saving! Apparently he is the best in the world. We are stuffed if it goes to a shoot out, which it seems like it will at this point.

Yep! I was pleased for India though, they played so well even when a man down.

Yeah, not to take anything away from them. They had a plan after they got a man off, scored as they needed to and then just held us off. You can tell the commentator is really unimpressed!

Marth - good for you.
I am sorely tempted to get a train down next Saturday after that BBC report saying places had slashed their prices to get people over there

Hazey, do it! I have also seen a few events offering ‘special price’ cheap tickets for same day events so could be worth it if you do go!

Just played around with the trains but getting back is an issue. Might have a look for the Paralympics though!
