Professional cycling 2020

Post by Kenickie »

I am SOOO excited this is back. :toot:

Some of the Covid-related things are making me laugh though. Alaphillipe is a particular offender for pointless mask use (not over nose, big gaps at the side etc). So much seems to be for show rather than actual safety.

Amazing to see Adam Yates in yellow at the moment.

I have been watching live every afternoon, it’s been great. I quite agree that most of them aren’t very compliant with masks, especially when they have punctures.
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Its brilliant, we've really enjoyed it. I was even entertained by the really boring stage with no break aways. It feels quite open this year. So ironic Yates is finally in yellow when his stated intention was stage wins!

It’s great that he’s in yellow but it’s a (small) shame that he wasn’t able to “win” his way into it - such a memorable thing to have happen due to someone else’s penalty.

The mask wearing seems similar to the F1 guys to me - lots of apparently specially designed masks that seem to constantly slip down while talking and be all gappy.

I'd really like Pinot to win, although I wouldn't mind Roglic either. I don't think Yates is nearly consistent enough although it'd be lovely. It made me laugh yesterday when David Millar was being really disparaging about his usual tactic of staying near the back 'which he claims gives him an advantage'.

I agree the masks seem a bit pointless in their situation, I guess maybe slightly useful when talking to the media but that's about it (and maybe they could just be in front of a static mike so the media people could just stand back seeing as they're all outdoors anyway).

Watching it is also making me nostalgic for holidays in France - as the TdF always does when they go through the picturesque bits.

Great stage today. Watched the whole thing (apart from a nap). So exciting to have so many young talents (and not such an iron grip by a Sky/ineos team.

I'm not sure Nans Peters meant to show quite so much, um, groin as he crossed the line!

I've just caught up and I said exactly this to P. It feels so much more open and unpredictable. I guess as well there's the added factor of not knowing other people's form so well because of the jack off racing this year.

It feels like it could be one of the most interesting for a while.

I wanted to give Pinot a hug. Although partly because he's quite hot

Definitely to both of those. I was really cheering Hirschi on though.

Really good stage. I wanted Hirschi to do it too.

I can't believe he still had energy for the sprint!

Yep. As much as I enjoyed the British/Ineos successes, this is more interesting. Gutted for Hirschi yesterday though.

Apparently everyone but the race director himself has tested negative, which is good news. Presumably means he has to go home and miss the rest? (You'd hope!).

Oh no, incorrect, 4 team members (not riders) have tested positive so 4 teams have one strike against them.

Also, the race director spent the day in the car with the French PM earlier this week :ruby:
