Aw, thank you everyone, you are all very kind, I’m sorry to have derailed the thread, please do continue to moan about your parents.
After a suitable amount of time has passed I will be back here to moan about my Mum, there’s plenty of fodder!

I'm so sorry, Hobbes, how dreadful for you all.
I'm definitely going to talk to my Dad about POA when I'm over there next week. I hadn't really thought about it much at all until the bank thing cropped up. I will suggest my sister do it, though, as she's probably the most sensible choice.

Re: Flipping parents
To go back to my original reason for starting this thread, my dad has been having tests for a weird kind of anaemia. He had high iron & low haemoglobin so they did a bone marrow biopsy. It sufficiently shit him up that he’s stopped drinking (previously a whole bottle of wine + spirits most evenings).
Today the haematologist had said it’s refractory anaemia with sideroblasts, which is apparently a potential precursor for leukaemia but his blood tests are looking ok. I need to read up a little more but he sounded better than he has in weeks on the phone.
Mum says they’re both going to start walking more as he knows his mobility isn’t great.
The inlaws are going to be an issue though, especially as it looks headed for divorce.

I'm glad both your mum and dad are taking it seriously and doing what they can to improve their health.
I just caught up on your in-laws. Wow!

I'm glad your parents are getting up and about, Pip.
I don't tend to read the daily thread so had no idea about your worrying day and I still haven't caught up about your in -laws apart from page 1 of today's daily... I'll read other days backwards now.
I hope you're ok and feeling a bit better, Pip.

When my mum was drinking loads of red wine she had high iron levels. As soon as she stopped drinking it levelled out. I hope it’s nothing serious Pip.

Re: Flipping parents
Things continue to be worrying. My mum and dad fell out big time yesterday and Mum walked out on Dad. He seemed mildly concerned but then when she wasn’t at the garden centre he gave up looking and went home. She was fine but is really pissed off.
My MIL is making moves to see grandkids, but only my BIL’s family. I am so angry and upset about that. She’s not made any effort at all to speak to C since last Tuesday when he declined to meet her new partner at the end of the evening. And she’s made no effort at all to be in touch with my two. They’re not bothered, but I am. Her behaviour speaks volumes. And while FIL is no angel by any means, he’s the one on his own, so he’s coming to watch Squeak’s rugby match this afternoon and will probably stay for dinner.
I really want to shake my MIL (and my parents).
