I’m sorry Hobbes. Take care of yourself x

My mum (like her mum) has a black handbag beside other folders with important information.

Sorry to hear that, Hobbes. In dealing with my dad’s stuff, we found the weirdest things challenging and demanding. Notify the banks and make Mum sole named holder, not a problem. Change the name on their £2.90 a month insurance on the washing machine, a complete pain in the hole!

Yes! The house insurance people were awful, they refused to just take my dad off the policy and insisted on seventeen different bits of identification and proof of death. In the end we waited until the policy needed renewing and then cancelled it and took out a new one.

Just a note that a POA ceases on the death of the person.

I've just helped my brother do probate for his wife (the bank needed it), but she was very organised which made it very straightforward.

They are also very old school with no direct debits, standing orders, social media, phone contracts. Probate has been granted already and we only did it around a fortnight ago.

That makes total sense but I'd never thought about it.

Thanks all, think we are all a bit shell shocked as it was so sudden.

He had surgery to remove what turned out to be a bowel tumour at the end of August, but he seemed to be recovering and doing very well, so we were hopeful they had got all of it and he would have a lot more time.

He then got admitted to hospital on Wednesday after feeling quite poorly for a couple days and it turned out the cancer had spread to his liver and bones. He went downhill so incredibly quickly and was gone by Saturday

Oh, Hobbes, that's so sad. I'm so sorry.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.
