Oh yes sickness not stuffiness! I've no idea where stuffiness came from. :look:

Thanks all. I feel a bit horrendous, to be honest Marth, but very glad to have the medication so I'm still working etc whereas this time last time was when I started getting signed off.

Thanks. I'm really hoping it doesn't last up to giving birth this time. It's got to be 50% easier, logically, right?

We've told our immediate families now. I'm not sure when to tell other people. Last time I told my manager at this stage, because of being signed off, but held off from others until the 12 week scan. However, I looked up some reassuring stats which seem to say that there's not that much difference in risk level between a scan now and at 12 weeks.

As I've only been in my job since July, I don't want to tell my manager if it's not going to end in a good outcome, as understandably it's not great timing career wise. But it might be good to negotiate a bit more WFH if I do tell her, and I guess she will also appreciate the advance warning. There are a few projects we're trying to push to next academic year for workload reasons which she's been very supportive of but I also don't want her to think that I'm delaying things just so they become someone else's problem!

I'm meeting a friend for drinks on Sat and don't know whether to tell her. If I do, I think I need to tell her beforehand so she has time to process stuff, as her son was IVF and she really wants another but can't afford to because she has to pay for the next round. I don't know if it's better to be upfront rather than make up a reason for being off the booze which she might end up seeing through.

Yeah, I’d be tempted to tell work if only to get more WFH to help with sickness (and possibly reduce Covid risk if that’s on your radar). I’m assuming there’s no opportunities coming up over the next few weeks that you’d risk losing out on?

And yes, I’d be tempted to tell the friend, but I’m a terrible liar in these situations and I’d rather give someone the heads up beforehand if it might be sensitive news.

Ahhh Ken, that's lovely! You have a tiny little beating heart inside you!

Sorry the sickness isn't easing off yet. For that and planning reasons, I would probably choose to tell your manager sooner rather than later. I had to tell mine after 9 weeks with my second pregnancy and he really appreciated being told as early as possible.

As for telling your friend, definitely do that. It might be painful for her at first but keeping it quiet for longer becomes really awkward, I know from experience.
