I've been enjoying raw red onion in my greek side salad for the last two evenings. I love it in the right dish and quantity.

I am interested in this cheese on toast with onion. When done acceptably, is it just the onion fried and added to the cheese on toast at the end, or is it a whole Welsh Rarebit type affair with a cheese sauce made in the onion pan?

I don't mind raw onion in the right context, but the right context definitely isn't a surprise whole disc of it tucked under melted cheese.

In the Mowgli Himalayan cheese on toast it’s chopped & mixed in with the cheese, but raw. And it’s fine in that.
In Greek salad I like to toss it in lemon juice for a while to take the edge off it.

I'm a right old ponce and sometimes dp COT with red onion, mango chutney, nigella seeds and chopped coriander as a deviation from a classic COT situation.

My favourite toastie is cheese with thinly sliced red onion and salad cream.

That sounds very fancy, Disco.

Well my Nana's cafe used to serve cheese in toast which was a bit like rarebit, the cheese was grated and mashed with milk, wholegrain mustard, pepper then spread in the toast and grilled. However, you could also have cheese and onion (raw), cheese and tomato, or cheese all on.

Cube spent the weekend with his dad and has come home telling me all about the new school he’s going to. A school in Durham which is nearly 90 minutes away by train. It’s a school that specialises in engineering which at 14 he’s decided is his life goal.

He’s midway Y10 and is apparently going to an open day with us dad at the end of the month and transferring for Y11.

A quick look at their admissions policy and they don’t take Y11. He could transfer now but they’re full.

His dad claimed they’d (the school) would pay his transport. They will not.

Why has he got Cube’s hopes up about this and left me to be the ones to dash it. He can definitely go but from Y12 only.

Let him be the one to tell Cube, don't take this on.

Cube hasn’t spoken to me in 3 weeks and has been terrorising the family (he’s the reason behind my dislocated knee) because I wasn’t wholly enthusiastic about him starting an apprenticeship in Somerset at 16. As in, I asked pertinent questions rather than saying no you can’t do it. So no, I don’t want to take this one on.

And then I have to deal with lovely little digs like this in his messages too.

He really is. Sorry, Kleio, I've nothing remotely productive to add but FFS. I can only imagine how frustrating and infuriating it must be.

Maybe he should go & live with his dad for a while? At least while he’s being violent.

He won’t get the help he needs there.
