Apparently it’s 1 in 2315.
I'm amazed the odds are that good. There's hope then. :)

I did it in 4 today. 4 seems to be my general average. though I am getting better at the proper thinking and not wasting letters.

I think I'm going to note down the words that have come up as they shouldn't be back again soon.
But I cant remember which words we've already done apart from 3 ! Brain freeze!

Surely it’s way more than that?

I found an article where someone was trying to work out the best word to start and as part of the calculation had found 2315 possible solutions in the source code.

Is it 2,315 acceptable 5 letter words that aren't plurals? As I am assuming there are no plurals as solutions.

I got it in three, which, like Marth, is my highest yet, so I am very pleased. :disco: Also because I sat and thought about it this time rather than just bashing the keyboard with my knuckles.

Though google tells me there are 158,360 5 letter words in the English language. :)) So they must only be using some words. I'd say they were ignoring the arcane ones but I think I class rebus as a bit arcane. :))

It will be 2315 words that were put into it, not every possible 5 letter word.

ETA - wiki/articles state the developer said there's 2500 words, though he may have rounded up.

But then surely the odds being 1 in 2,315 would depend on you also only choosing from that pool for your first word, which you aren't?

To actually pedant at myself, you didn't do maths, you just applied logic.

Good point. Reading further (rather than just grabbing the first number I saw :)) ) there are 12972 words it accepts as guesses ie valid 5 letter words which are not all possible solutions.

How do you generate the little solution picture of coloured blocks showing how many tries you've taken?

Warning: I just glanced at the solution list to see if there were plurals and realised it’s working through in order rather than a random selection so don’t do that if you don’t want to spoiler yourself.

I've finally figured this out! It took me ages even after reading the instructions multiple times. I love it! It took me four attempts today which I'm pleased with.

I bet they have taken irate and other words out of the official solution list just to annoy people. ;)
