IWLTS: you cancelled my last one to one, and now you're 25 minutes late for this one. Way to make me feel valued.

Re: IWLTS
My boss went through a phase of doing that for weeks at a time last year and didn’t get that it made me feel unimportant. Im sorry Sal, they’re all annoyingsally maclennane wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 2:24 pm IWLTS: you cancelled my last one to one, and now you're 25 minutes late for this one. Way to make me feel valued.

I don’t even know my new boss’s email address.

My manager puts KITs in at the start of the year on some kind of recurrence that ends up with half of them on Fridays (which I don't work) or falling on Sundays or something daft. :)) I don't bother to point this out half the time. But I speak to him most days anyway, so it's not like I feel unsupported. And at least he's stopped asked me how I FEEL now. I don't approve of that sort of thing.

Re: IWLTS
My favourite thing about my new job is no longer line managing anyone so no more 121s with a team.
I like 121s with my line manager though, as now and previously I'm managed by someone quite senior so it's the only way to get agreement for stuff as they're impossible to get hold of otherwise.

I reckon I'd actually need one either on an ad-hoc basis or once every 6 months. Weekly is insane, we literally have a 10 minute chat about our lives and have spoken countless times that day anyway. All a bit bizarre. In fact, it feels much more like a weekly small-talk challenge which I absolutely detest

Yes, yes, one to ones are terrible, all the cool kids hate them.

I like my weekly 121. The work related part is usually done quite quickly then we talk about tv and our gardens. My manger is lovely.

I am firmly in the "hate 121s" camp. One of the best things about my Manager is that our last annual review consisted of him taking me out for brunch, and a conversation which went pretty much as follows:
Me: Everything Ok, any issues you want to raise?
Him: Nope, all good. Do you want a latte or a cappuccino?
Mind you, we're either constantly on WhatsApp when working from home, and sit at adjoining desks at work, so don't suffer from a lack of communication generally.

IWLTS: you'll never know how touched I am that you invited me.
I had a message last night from one of the guys from the football forum that I used to use, and where I met my ex. They have a meet up every year, and this guy used to invite us every year. I'd have gone but J was never that keen for some reason, plus we often went on holiday in June so a few times we were away when it was on. The two guys who organise it live in the same town, so we had met up with them a few times, when we were there on holiday in lockdown days, and holidaying in Scotland. When we spilt up, S (one of them) got in touch with me, and was very kind (and also critical of J ). The other guy didn't know, he asked S to invite me and J, so S updated him on the situation and contacted me last night to say they were inviting me, and not J
He also passed me the other guy's number as he has retired and I only had his work email so he (G) asked S to give me his personal number.
I know it doesn't sound much but I'd have considered these guys to be Js mates, and its really heartening that they've included me instead of him.
