J2 plays baseball and his coach is a bit of a tyrant but travels a lot for work, which is when the assistant coach steps in. He is extremely over-sensitive and stormed off halfway through their last training session after throwing a hissy fit over something innocuous. He is now refusing to lead today's training session.

God what tiring bullshit. Why can’t kids just get on with it and have fun without this egotistical nonsense?

Because men are dicks. #notallmen obviously- but a high proportion of those who are acting out their own failed sporting ambitions.

Jesus, Pip!

Football coaching is getting extremely bad here, too, F is getting actually upset by it. They keep changing the teams around and he's been put on the bottom team to help them stop losing whilst all the kids whose Dad's are coaches are staying in the top team :ella: It is all so tedious and there are so many whatsapps flying about. They also somehow decided to put some twins in different teams so now their parents need to work out how to be in two places at once.

Reading stuff like this makes me happy I bred lazy couch potatoes. Honestly, my sister had exactly the same with all her kids' teams.

Also #notallmen but this definitely has the ring of truth. I teach two brothers at school and their dad is a local football coach - he often calls up to shout at female teachers. He tried it with me once so I shouted back and he hung up and then called back to apologise. I actually like his sons, but he is a ridiculous prick who has never grown up. I have a million stories like this tbh about kids whose dads coach various sports - including the idiot MMA coach who spent the rent on a tour and made his kids homeless in the middle of their GCSEs

This is oddly reassuring.

My own husband is trying to realise his own dreams through the kids, but it’s only manifesting through him spending (affordable) money on extra coaching for them. :uhh:

Sport is such a weird phenomenon. I enjoy some of it as a spectator and I think there are loads of benefits of participating, especially for kids. Yet it also seems to bring out the absolute worst in some people*

*men mainly, although I've known a few mad female PE teachers in my time.

We’ve exchanged the coaching issue now because another team was looking for a goalkeeper and surprise surprise, Coach Knobhead decided to get rid of Chunk. Which is fine because it’s actually a few levels up for us. Annoying that he doesn’t have friends to share lifts with.

IWLTS: this has a hint of the white saviour about it. I'm sure you're doing it with the best of intentions but I also bet you'll be instagramming the shit out of it.

wendy james wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 3:02 pm IWLTS What was the point of my double fucking checking before I booked my accommodation?

We’re doing a sponsored walk in 2 weeks. The majority live within public transport reach of the starting point (albeit it’s 2 hours from London!) but I’ll need to stay over all weekend. I booked my Airbnb after confirming we were definitely getting the bus back to the starting point together and eating there.

Today I’m told that we’re eating where the walk finishes, a 40 minute bus ride away from my Airbnb. I double checked because I wanted to be able stay close to where we were eating.

I am very tempted to just fuck the whole thing off. I’m the only person who’s posted the fundraising link anywhere and P is the only person who has sponsored us so far. 😂
At the time, I shortened my Airbnb to just the Friday night knowing if I ultimately cancelled I'd lose the full amount (which is less than 50% of the original 2 night stay, which is all I'd have had refunded if I'd cancelled back then).

There's been a bit of talk from management about how we need to raise at least what it's costing the firm, which makes sense. But then on Tuesday (the event is Saturday!), a member of the WhatsApp group said we NEED to raise £100 each and a template to send to 'all our family and friends'. I'd never have signed up to that commitment, as I did the Race for Life with Elvis a few weeks back and made a big fuss, and people were very generous. Plus we're all adults and it's 22km so not exactly a massive challenge!

Add in the colour theme 'so we look cool' and 'let's all go for a swim in the sea to raise more money!' and I decided to drop out. It would have cost £150 in my mileage claim (in my Oct pay, so I'd still be forking out for petrol this week), plus my personal expenses in Airbnb, food, etc. and honestly, I CBA. :mog:

We might do a family walk instead, though that won't be 22k.

I think you did the right thing there Wendle.

IWLTS put one more demand on my time or brain power and I think you will find I snap.

Oh my God, Pip. I was literally coming here to post almost the exact same thing. I think I might actually lose it today.

I came so close with my new recruit. She’s not actually done anything today to warrant it, so I’m glad I held it together.

What’s happening with you?

Just one of those days; work is really full-on, I have open evening on Wednesday so have to stay til 9, one of my closest friends is going through a hideous (and entirely foreseeable) break-up and is on the phone for hours and it's Nobs' birthday tomorrow. :twitch:

I just want to sit on my own in a dark room.

I really relate to that. Your poor friend too. You’re not being absolutely mental and trying to decorate an elaborate cake though, are you?

There are so many things to think about and sort and it doesn’t help that C is trying to be helpful from afar by sending reminders but the distance is translating them to demands.

Same. :)) I also sent Partner to the shop to buy a load of sweets so that Bobs has something to open tomorrow, which was part of my stress.

God yes. 'Helpful' reminders can really send you under.
