True. And so depressing.

There was a woman from the Times on Newsnight last night who was extremely scathing about the current cabinet. She was talking about Gavin Williamson who is a special kind of useless but she said that Johnson's entire cabinet had been picked for their loyalty and were "far from the best, or even capable"

I mean we all know that but it was still good to hear it acknowledged in the media.

It's good if it becomes widely acknowledged rather than considered to be leftie nonsense.

I do fear going back to 1970s food. Still! Nettles are abundant and as good as any other unexciting green. And our local producers are much more diverse than they were then, and make feta and all sorts. As long as you have plenty of cash, of course.

I thought you were only supposed to eat the new, delicate shoots of nettles and now they're mostly rugged and green and sometimes flowering. Can you live on nettle flowers? Not that we'll have any of them come January....

Yes, they're best in the spring rather than now. Some still have new shoots for quite a long season though. I haven't been outside enough to know whether they still do around here of course. :)) Probably a decent amount of dandelion now though.

Speaking specifically for the bottom end of my nearest park, I believe we have nettles to go round all who want them, regardless of species.

Speaking for myself, I'm growing a lot of my own dandelions and nettles now. *rewilding the garden. *not doing any gardening

I picked some blackberries yesterday but only a few due to the birds needing them more.

I think that if we get to the stage that humans have harvested enough of the nettles and dandelions to make shortages for wild animals, quite a lot of the wild animals will also have been harvested :uhh:

I have a south london foraging book. We basically have to survive on nettles and one specific patch of wild garlic that gets three leaves in March.

I blame this thread for my dreams about being a survivalist last night.

What do you think an oligarch would taste like?

There'd be some good marbling on the rump and a good fat cap on the belly. Very tender, like a cosseted Kyoto cow.
