It was them I was primarily thinking of, contact with one person who is also isolating, as opposed to dozens of shoppers who may or may not be following proper distancing etc.

ETA If we all follow the rules and my Dad goes to the shops for himself, and BM and I both go to the shops together, that's three people out mingling in the world instead of one.

Didn't know where to put this, but it's something nice.

Ireland went into lockdown at midnight. Our chef friend, who co-owns the restaurant opposite my shop, is in isolation with his family, recovering from a hip replacement. He rang R this morning, saying he was bored and, so, had made us a beef stew (for R) and a bean stew (for me). He has arranged for R to call him when he's about 5 minutes away, and he'll leave the two containers for us on the garden wall! I made a batch of brownies to say thank you. :))

That is a lovely idea, OTH. But I don’t think anyone should be eating food made in a different household :look: I mean, you might as well go and give them a hug.

I read a long article assessing the risks of eating food prepared by others, including takeaways, and the analysis was that there's very minimal chance of catching something, as long as you wipe down containers etc.

I wish I could find the link - it was a really thorough, scientifically researched article though, I felt very reassured after reading it.

I think the link is on the other thread as I remember reading it after you posted it.

I'm wondering about driving to my parents' house 15 miles away to leave a cake on their doorstep. It would be virtually no risk because I've been socially distant for 3 weeks and I want to cheer them up because I think they are struggling, but how would this go down if I was stopped by the police?

They're vulnerable, you're looking out for them and not putting them at risk or driving a silly distance. I don't see a problem. We're making weekly visits to my mum (20 miles) with shopping. And that's what we'd tell any police who stopped us although so far southern police don't seem to be going the way of Derbyshire. And the police have been told to be a bit more listening and a bit less social media shaming.

I'm sorry your parents are struggling. This is such a horrible aspect of things.

I'd say that if absolutely fine; we've been asked to minimise travel and think about our journeys. It doesn't have to be life and death to be important.

I agree. You could take some additional provisions (food, medicine) if you need more of a reason if someone were to ask.

I'm sorry they are struggling.

Work recently sent me this to use in my freelance work, which is helpful I think

The Government have also put together an FAQs of what you can/cannot do with regards to social distancing which may be helpful for people contacting us. This is at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... nd-cant-do

Is it ok....that I have stolen my neighbours food recycling caddy out of their garden?

They are away, (and have been for a few months I think) we are on good terms, I could reach over the fence, it's been outside of their shed for over a year, because they don't use it, I've lost mine somehow and have been using a bucket (which is unattractive), the council are telling us to recycle as much as possible.
