When I’d been back on this area just over year I was greeted by someone in the street who cooed over a baby Elf, called us both by name and hugged me like we were old friends. I’d say they were about 15 years older than me. I was confused but blamed my baby brain.

Not long after I’d posted about looking for something and this person commented saying she had one and could drop it off. I had zero recollection of adding them to Facebook and she knew my home address!

I asked around and although we had some mutual friends no one could remember how I’d met this person. The people we have in common only know her vaguely too.

I’ve bumped into her twice this week and she’s stopped and chatted like we’ve been best friends for years.

It’s gone on for so long now I don’t think I can ask who the fuck are you.

Last summer, my brother invited us all to his place in Connecticut for a family reunion-type thing next August. I blithely accepted, thinking the flights were going to be around 500 quid each. Yeah, no. I'm looking at about 3 grand for the 3 of us, and hours and hours of travelling. I really want to pull out, but my Dad and my sister (+ her family) have already booked their flights. Three grand would buy me a lot of new kitchen though. :cry:

I don’t think you should feel bad if you want to say that Zoom, if the goalposts (prices) change so dramatically and you really need the funds for something else.

I think it might be OK to say that too. Although careful how you frame it, if you want to avoid people trying to be 'helpful'.
