There are quite a few Something-Mae’s in J’s peer group (he’s 10 this year)

I like the not-Royal baby’s name :look:

There’s a book about a girl called Lily Rose May who doesn’t like peas - perhaps it came from that?

It’s so bizarre. If Harry loves his grandmother that much then maybe he shouldn’t be slagging off her family in the media knowing that only his side of the story can be given. “But hey, let’s give our daughter this tacky name & pretend we’re so devoted to Granny”.

I think Lili is a lovely name by itself, and works nicely with Archie too. Lilibet as a given name I think is pretty cringey - imagine being a 40 year old professional woman with that on every document you sign! (I used to work with a lawyer lumbered by her parents with Vickee, she hated her name  ).

As for the touching tribute to his beloved grandmother, it’s a fascinating swerve after their recent behaviour. I’d so love to know what WhatsApp conversations went on yesterday!

I disliked it at first, but it's grown on me already.

I had a hamster called Mae in 1992 so I was pretty ahead of the curve.

The conversation has reminded me that my father had an elderly woman client who was called Queenie Victoria (born in her jubilee year I think). So there are definitely worse choices for royal tributes!

My Grandma's actual, birth certificate name was Queenie! As her parents were immigrants to the country, I assume it was in a fit of patriotic zeal.

I'm finding it hard to get worked up about Lilibet, there are loads of diminutives/pet names that have become names in their own right.

The name itself doesn't bother me at all, because like you say its the case with loads of names. Its just amusingly try hard.

I hadn’t even realised they’d had the baby. It’s a bit twee and doesn’t the Cambridge daughter have Elizabeth and Diana in her name?

It seems a bit weird to name your child completely after your in-laws too, even if you got on very well with them.

Yes, she's Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

I wonder what the in-laws think of the amount of sucking up that goes to that side of the family. I suppose there's little chance of the child being named Doria or Carole, but perhaps they held out a secret hope.

I don't think you can ring fence a family name though, especially when it's 2 brothers who lost their mum at a young age. A number of my cousins have the same middle name (my grans first name) and its my niece's first name too.

Yeah, Dead grandmother is always going to be a shoe in.

I think its the sort of thing you just have to accept if your child marries into the royals (or probably, any kind of monied family).
