Sensible to do that - otherwise you can guarantee someone else would register it and turn it into a porn site or something.

I can’t get exercised about the name - I wouldn’t choose it for my child but tastes differ, and I am sure that they ran it past the Queen beforehand. If the Queen had not been happy she’d have said so.

I don’t mind the name, in a way it’s quite pretty, not royal but then Archie was so not royal (and I thought at the time a bit naff) I don’t like the “lil Di” thing though. I know it sounds unfeeling but I think that’s a hell of a burden to put on a child. My mum CS when I was 21 and I always wanted S to have her name but as a middle name, we know it’s there, but it’s not used. She’s her own person.

Lili is not Diana and Diana is not “her beloved grandmother” she never did or Ever will know her. I realise that sounds harsh but I do think they play the Diana thing a lot, she was a beautiful troubled soul with what seemed a kind heart but she was not a saint.

Recognising relatives (particularly dead ones) on a child's name is a tradition as old as history though, tbf to them. I guess the double whammy of being named for two of the most famous women in recent history is quite heavyweight, but let's be honest, it's not like there wouldn't be intense interest on her anyway given who she is.

Yeah you are right Smal and to be fair I’m a hypocrite as S’s middle name is my mums, I think with all the Diana stuff at the minute and their resounding “we don’t want to be royal!” Naming their child after the queen and Diana seems a bit, well odd.

They might not want to be royal but they're still entitled to be part of the family and to name their children after family members.

Oh god totally Sal, I’m just surprised given their wanting distance from the royal family that they did.
For what it’s worth I am a fan of the royal family and Harry and Meghan, I was more saying given their adamant distancing that by they would the choose names closely linking them.

Yes, of course they are, but it seems quite...conflicted. which isn't altogether unexpected, I suppose.

Someone said that they want to leave the family business, not the family.

What is it called when people have a name that suits their profession? I know there’s a word but my brain is mashed today. Like a dentist being Dr Teeth.

My daughter was once referred to a dentist called Dr Payne. That does not bode well!

I’m not a huge fan of double barrelled names anyway but Harry-Jean is an odd combination. I wonder how they’ll be pronouncing the Jean bit.
