Can I have some suggestions please as I suspect I'm not going to the hairdressers for a while?!

I like the John Frieda ones. Bit more expensive than average but often discounted. I find the coverage good, and it leaves my hair in decent condition. And it's a mousse which makes application a bit easier.

I use the light non-reddish browns like Ash and Natural.

Should you apply to wet hair or not?

Always dry hair, the ones I've used. They actually recommend you wash it the night before rather than on the day but I often don't think that far in advance.

I use vaseline lip balm on the tips of my ears and around my temples to try and minimise skin dyeing beyond the hairline, and if there are any obvious bits where that's happened I use a baby/skin cleansing wipe on immediately.

Yes to the dry hair and I thought that ‘old’ hair (ie not too freshly washed) worked better too.

I have a box of Nurtrisse for when I get totally fed up.

Thanks for the suggestions. Also don't forget to do your patch tests.

I've only done it once (this century at least ) and it definitely said not clean hair, but I understood the instructions to say to rinse it first. Maybe I got confused.

I like Schwarzkopf Colour Expert. Always on dry (and usually dirty) hair.

Always patch test. I had a reaction to one once.

I used to use Loreal N&E. It was fine for several years until it just went too dark. I'd use it again as a stop gap though.

Can I ask a question. I only ever went all over but is there a way of doing just roots adequately? I'm growing out bleach, but I like the ombre look so I'd quite like not to destroy it, esp not with random big chunks of another colour.

Would your hairdresser help, if you can't find any in stock? My hairdresser put a post on Facebook saying she will try to get people's own colours to them, if they need it.

I would totally just use a non perm 10 washes one and just do the visible roots.

I’ve been using the Live! bright ones for a while as I do favour purple/blue/red hair.

I need to get something semi-permanent for Betty. I’ve used krazy kolor and Directions in the past but they wash out in 2-3 washes. Last time I used a semi-permanent Live one. I’ve heard good things about Bleach London. She wants orange or red hair.

It's the best time to play with new colours really, isn't it?!

I think the Live Colours are the ones my hairdresser rates. Unfortunately most of them seem to be going for stupid money at the moment.

You can’t get root spray anywhere!

To be honest, I feel like a lottery winner because I’ve found a box of root touch up dye under the bathroom sink.
