Re: Sack the stylist!
This is the kind of thing I mean. I have vague memories of my paternal grandmother wearing one.
And when I lived in Rome, the market near me had a stall selling them, so presumably some Italian ladies were still buying them.

Awww, my grandma’s was like that too!
They are not dressing gowns! My grandma wouldn’t have dreamed of cleaning in her dressing gown. The very idea!

I would just call that a tabard; the one Zoomer exhibits but I've always assumed "housecoat" was another name for dressing gown so I know nothing.

Re: Sack the stylist!
My mum always wore one for housework. Given how much crap I get myself covered in I should probably consider it. Plus you get to take it off when you're finished and then no more work can be done. Blue and white check, made out of something you shouldn't get to close to an open flame. I find them comforting, possibly due to the association with being at home in the day, so school holidays or off sick.
We also had the giant roll(s) of sellotape. They fell off the back of a lorry, along with my record player (remarkably unscathed) and four crates of satsumas. I think your grandma maybe knew the same lorry.

Mine was more like smal's, but was sort of empire line, just so you look like you're as wide as your chest the whole way down.

As far as I'm concerned, a housecoat goes over your normal clothes, it's not a dress.
ETA I missed the last page and was replying to 97's photo post.

A “house dress” (two words, working garment) as described in that Lucille Ball pic is not the same thing as a “housecoat” (one word, dressing gown).

My Gran had one just like the one you posted, Zooms.
MrE’s family call a dressing gown a house coat though. Which I consider to be wrong.

Mwahahaha! The quilted monstrosity bought back a fab memory!
When I was much younger, I lived with a guy, H, and his parents were very, very keen for us to get married and provide grandchildren. I was very, very not keen, much to their annoyance. For Christmas one year I received a full length, baby pink quilted monstrosity from them! I think they were trying to make me look as awful as possible so H would leave me!

Re: Sack the stylist!
Are you wearing the chain on its own, Squiz, or over a similarly see-through garment? I reckon you should just show off the chain in all its glory, you don't want anything to distract from it.
