Dressing for autumn

Post by nineseven »

Every autumn I have a sartorial crisis :emme:

I struggle with a lot of shoes as I have quite wide feet and a lower back problem, so my choices are limited anyway. This time of year is tricky as it can still be warm-ish, but not warm enough for sandals. I think tights and boots will be a bit hot. I would live in trainers but they're not really suitable for eg a smart restaurant. I don't really fancy a dress and bare legs but I struggle to find non-jeans trousers I like.

WHAT DO YOU WEAR IN SEPTEMBER? :spoon:

Currently work uniform then pyjamas.

Not helpful.

If I didn’t have a uniform I’d be looking at dresses with tights and a low ankle boot of some design.

I rarely wear trousers as I’m such an odd shape.

I love Autumn for the dress/boots combo, but you're right it is tricky weather-wise at the moment! I have been wearing long-ish dresses with boots, but not wearing tights yet which works for me.

Brogues, ankle boots (no tights required), loafers, heeled sandal, sandals, trainers.

It's boiling hot quite often in SEPTEMBER.

Thank you. I think I need to buy an entire new wardrobe and shoes/boots. I honestly don't know what to wear tonight at all.

I have these shoes in a million colours. They’re really comfy. https://www.marksandspencer.com/leather ... _pdp_share

Thanks Pip. I know I mainly ranted about shoes but it's clothes too  I think I've spent too long at home in leggings.

I'm still wearing sandals!

I'm wearing a black midi length t shirt dress with tan saltwaters and if I was going out later I'd sling on a denim jacket.

Culotte trousers or wide jeans, t shirt and plimsolls/sandals is another favourite this time of year.

I'm also hankering after cardigans after I got rid of all of mine a year to two ago.

I've got some longer dresses, a couple of mid calf/long skirts. Trousers I find harder, but I fall back to a couple of pairs of cigarette style trousers. I haven't transitioned to boots yet, so I wear ballet pumps if I need flat smarter shoes (I've got four pairs of the same ones from Accessorize in various colours). But really most the time I'm at home/school run/domestic stuff so I don't need to be smart that often. I live in a lot of jeans and pumps really.

Oh and I have bought a few midi length skirts recently which I'm wearing with bare legs and plimsolls/sandals and t shirts/jumpers depending on the weather.

One black slip style one from Hush which has taken me right back to the 90s

I’m still in flip flops. Also mostly in jeans at the weekend. I wouldn’t know what to wear to go properly out right now to be fair.

Saltwaters are my absolute saviour in the summer but I find I get a bit chilly in the evenings now. I could brave it... I won't be outside too much tonight. My black maxi dress from Saint & Sofia has also been brilliant but it's sleeveless which feels a bit much now.

Could you wear a jacket or shirt over it?

A denim jacket looks nice with it but I'll be eating in a restaurant so it would have to come off.

Possibly! I just went outside and it's definitely not sleeveless + sandals weather (for me). It's only 15C. I'm going with shirt, jeans, ankle boots.

Jeans, tops and ballet flats. And dresses over black leggings.

I do need to invest in a proper pair of flat tan boots this autumn.

I love September and autumn clothes are my favourite.

It’s still pretty warm here and will be around 25c this evening when I meet my friend for dinner. I will probably wear this midi skirt (mine is navy) and a short sleeved jumper also in navy similar to the one in the pic with blush slip ons.

I won’t artfully drape myself across the restaurant like that though.

Is that model a young boy? :look:

I am in sandals at the moment due to this ridiculous weather. I've gone feral because I haven't even had a pedicure. But otherwise I live in Fitflop sneakers or ballet pumps.
