Mine is made of pallets, and the walls are lined with tarp. It's under a tree and I don't cover it, so it stays moist.

I have the green cone compost bin which is supposed to be very productive and you can put pretty much anything in it. If you've got space for a larger compost heap though then that probably makes more sense.

Surprise plants is lovely. I love ranunculus. I ordered some from Farmer Gracy last year but they didn't do anything.

I was outside so took a picture of the gap. The canoe has to stay but the red plastic thing would not be there.

She is lovely.

I’ve reminded myself that I’m not at all handy and hate making things, so it makes more sense to buy the right thing in the first place rather than waste hours buggering it up. So I’m looking at wooden compost bins.

The ones that are just a wooden square, how do you get the compost out? The bins I’ve had in the past had a door at the bottom for removal.

Don't you have to dig it out? I've always thought they work better if you have two on the go.

Ah! Having two would make sense then. Thank you, I didn’t think of that. I avoid reading about composting as it quickly gets complicated so I get disheartened and lose interest 🤪.

It does get made to sound like a dark art doesn't it. I just lob stuff in the plastic one and it comes out fine by and large.

Two bins are handy (but not vital) for moving compost from one to the other to speed the heap up. I just have one massive heap, but have the space to turn it over.

Something like that with an open front would make it easier to get the compost out.

I would definitely just buy something rather than build it. Mine is homemade, but not by me

Okay great, this is all much clearerer.

I’ve gone from looking at £50 bins to.... £160 bins. Which I don’t want to spend but they make the cheaper ones look woefully inadequate so round in circles I go.

I got my green cone via a discounted scheme my local council were running, Squiz. Might be worth a look.

This is the one I have but they make others:

It says it needs to be in a sunny position unfortunately, which mine won’t be. I’ll check the local council, thank you.

It looks like my council have got a scheme but annoyingly the one I would want is still £100! I will sleep on it.

Mr D bought one of the slatted compost bins but it's a low rectangle so I'd imagine it's easier to turn and finally get the compost out.

I've bought yet another rose, a rambling one this time and an arch to break up the mass expanse of flat lawn we have.

I've just planted up DA Gertrude Jekyll (climber) and Princess Alexandra of Kent in pots on the balcony. They were my present to myself for getting my new job. :))

Those are all so pretty :love2:.

I have spent another £50 at the garden centre! I really need to rein myself in next month.

I bought sweet peas with no real plan where to put them.
