House clearance

Post by Texaco Shirley »

If anyone has hired a house clearance company especially in London would you mind sharing how much they cost and how long they took? I have a quote for my mum’s but it’s just a number. I’ve asked them to breakdown how they arrived at the quote but I have no idea what to expect is reasonable.

Not London but J just got quotes for house clearance for his uncle’s place. The first quote was £1000.00 exactly, the second (which has a connection to the selling agent) was £800.00.

Thanks Edith. We’ve been quoted £1350 on the basis that it will take 1.5 days but that does include 2 garden sheds with paint, creosote etc.

We had a clearance firm that had an auction arm, so they cleared and auctioned the contents (nothing valuable, we took anything important ourselves, just ordinary furniture and also loads of rubbish and about a hundred jars of pickled onions) which pretty much covered the cost of the clearance* - is anything like that available?

* I think we made something like £7. :))

I think it’s just a day’s work for our job - nothing toxic or specialist, just a few tools in the garage and normal household stuff.

£1350 doesn’t sound wildly out of line when you take the North/South divide into consideration.

We don’t have time to get anyone else out now. I painted myself into a corner a bit. We were originally getting the BHF to do it but they’re a bit sniffy about what they can sell and also won’t clear anything vaguely hazardous so I had to find someone else at relatively short notice. This company had very good reviews and claim to recycle/donate absolutely anything they can rather than landfill.
