Oh I had a nuthatch this morning! They’re such messy feeders that the pigeons love them because they hoover up the mess.

Baby blue tits, great tits AND coal tits all seen recently.

I turned one of my hanging baskets into a bird feeder. Mostly I'm feeding stupid wood pigeons and young crows but yesterday I spotted two tiny birds which I think were finches (I need to Google). They were so beautiful and I've never seen one up close before.

Duo, where did you get your ladybirds from?

I got mine from cornish cabbage plants - www.cornishcabbageplants.com

We have some goldfinches that sometimes visit and they're beautiful with red on their faces and a flash of yellow on their wings.
I'm waiting on a nyjer feeder to arrive to try and tempt them into becoming a more permanent fixture.

That's the type I have too, are nyjer seeds the tiny black ones? That seems to be what they're taking from mine.

I'll investigate the ladybirds, my dahlia is covered in green fly and I suspect that might be why the one bloom I have is in such a poor state.

We have very vocal goldfinches but they are hard to actually see. I only know they're there from their song, they're always too high up on chimney pots or in flight to identify them just by sight.

They are very creative and fond of their own voices.

Between them and the blackbird we have quite a choir. We won't mention the starling who can mimic my kitchen timer.

I heard a young parakeet they other day doing what sounded like an impression of one of those awful key rings you could get in the 80s- the ones that sounded like a police siren, then a car alarm, then a fire engine. Whoop whoop whoop, BEEbooBEEbooBEEboo, whompwhompwhompwhomp

. It was amazing.

Nyjer is crack for finches.

Though the all time bring all the birds to my yard is sunflower hearts. We had a brief visit from a starling the other day, which we've not had here before, so that was quite exciting. Also, I think something insect-y is spawning in the pond. I am not great on insecty identification, though, especially not when it is a wee black dot.

Yes sunflower hearts here too. I’m enjoying watching the juvenile tits trying All The Things to see which they prefer.

I gave up on nyjer once I’d lured them in and now exclusively use sunflower hearts for ease.

Black fly larvae? My pond is full of it at the mo. At least that's what Google thinks it is.

I have assiduously googled and they could be black fly or mosquito. Apparently either are a nice snack for a lot of my visiting birds, so they're fine.

Limpy Pidge has a limping friend so now we have Right Limpy and Left Limpy.

Also, so many babies out there! There was a juvenile thrush on my lawn yesterday.
