It is a tad extreme, not to be recommended! And you do have the wonderful Hanny to help you.

It is very cathartic though and I’m happy about the amount of stuff that will no longer be cluttering my apartment

I went through my cellar again and did a quick walkthrough of my flat thinking ‘do I really need this?’ and there’s so much more that will be donated or headed for the tip. I cannot wait for it all to go!

I thought I’d gotten rid of loads of stuff at the beginning of this year but watching three wiry lads pack up all your belongings and thinking “why am I keeping that?” And one of the removals guys commented on the number of books even though I’ve gotten rid of loads!

I won't be made to feel bad about having lots of books!

Oh I don’t! They don’t even fill two standard Billy’s from IKEA.

And the decluttering before the move was not enough! There is already a box of stuff in progress for the charity shop (including things like the pans which aren’t compatible with an induction hob) and a bag of textiles too.

So away we go with the next round

I've never gotten rid of books before, except to share them with family/friends, but I've been on hold for IT for over two hours so have done a massive sort out of my books and cajoled Mr5 to do that same on his side of the office. All of my favorites are on my shelves, his favorites on his, the ones we both love are in the family room and we've put a selection in the main guest room. Now I have to figure out what to do with the four massive boxes of books left.

Any Little Free Libraries near you? I used to pass on the odd book to various locations, and one lady took boxes of donations in order to stay stocked.

Our bookshelves are all mixed up. I like the idea of having my own space. I read a lot, but my collection is petite. (Book gifting and enthusiastic library user.)

Yes, several. That's a good idea! I'm down to just a couple dozen on my shelves, only books with a memory attached like a book signing event or a gifted one that I don't want to lend out. Mr5's books are ones I have no interest in: his chemistry books, his atheist books, etc..

The more I declutter, the more I realize I've filled my lovely home with total crap.

Mini rant coming up. I am sick of finding fucking cables and electronic shit everywhere.

I have just counted:

14 Micro USB cables
6 power banks (and there may be another couple missing)
4 cables of undetermined purpose/ origin
5 UK to EU adapters

And really annoying me is that I need another ruddy USB lightning cable but much shorter than all the other ones I have for use with said power banks while out and about as I lost one last week.

I did recently take all the obsolete cables and chargers to the tip to be recycled, but we probably have about 30 usb cables dotted around the house.

Actually, I said "All the obsolete cables" but really it was just the ones from the sideboard and my bedside table. I know full well that MrA has some in the tangle of cables he keeps in the study. But they are his responsibility and I'm not touching them.

Hazey, are you going to have to readjust to living together full time?

I have so much shit to get rid of, so I have so much empathy Five. I like stuff; having it and buying it, but I also recognise that I have too much and would feel lighter without it.

Cables are a source of almost daily arguments in this house. It shouldn’t be that hard to solve, but it is.
