If I can elaborate a bit about her, she was technically my great aunt, but a grandmother in every way, and we called her Omi-[her name] while my mum’s mum was Omi. She was German and born in 1909, and luckily left Europe before WW2 to live in South America where she ran a cattle ranch with her husband. She wasn’t able to have children, and apparently strongly encouraged my otherwise ambivalent grandmother to have one, so may be why I exist at all!

Her husband died when she was only in her forties, when she moved into their home in Austria and started going out regularly with local elite, and at some point started an extremely scandalous affair with a local married man :look: He did leave his wife for her, and they got married and were together until he died in his nineties. My mum was a teenager around their engagement and often stayed at her house, and said while he lived there too, it was strictly in separate bedrooms before the wedding. Something she discovered was a complete charade when she bumped into him at night one time, doing what appeared to be his regular creep along the corridor to Omi F’s room. They would’ve been somewhere in their fifties at this point

She was extremely funny, stylish and kind. My own favourite memory of her is her regular move of sneaking some money to my brother and me, with the legendary words “this is for when your daddy says no, but your pocket says yes”

The diamonds in my engagement ring are from her, and I love having a part of her with me all the time, and now I get a bit of her home too :love2:

That’s just so lovely Leap, she sounds like such a character - how lovely to have something special of hers in your home (and in your ring!) :love2:

We have started on Biggie’s room, he’s getting mostly green walls with black/white accents for furniture/decor, so we’ve just got this light fitting up, looks lovely but even nicer when you switch it on!

My bedroom shade is so similar Pov but doesn’t make cool patterns on the ceiling.

I’ve wanted this shade for Liv’s bedroom for ages and it finally came back into stock yesterday. I love it so much.

Oh I like Liv's shade. I'm always looking for shades a similar shape and size to that as our ceilings are so low. I need to replace the ones in the sitting room soon.

We’ve bought a new extending dining table, bench with seat pads & 4 chairs. I think it’s going to help C get over the fact we can’t do the extension he wanted (so much £££ & possibly too disruptive).

We’re going to turn our actual dining room into another sitting room in the interim & decide if we want to take a wall out.

We need new bar stools too, and I have narrowed it down to two that I like.
