I like to think they have a game going in the office to see who can get away with the most awful photo.

They must have.

When we last sold, I had to clear every surface in every room before they'd take a photo.

I'm always amazed at the amount of people who leave their TV on. Apart from it being incredibly rude, why would you?

To drown out the noise of the street outside? That was Mr. Jayne's theory after we looked at a place to buy recently and the woman had her telly blaring out the whole time we were there and let her toddler follow us around the whole time. We didn't like the apartment for other reasons but it was very off putting and I didn't feel comfortable asking for it to be turned down.

Goodness, I actually only meant for the photos, but it's even worse for viewings.

I always tried to be out when I had viewings. I mean, you want viewers to try and imagine themselves living there, so I tend to think having the owner and child(ren) there is counterproductive.

Absolutely. I've never ever wanted to be there for viewings. Also with our last house I didn't want to be put in the situation of answering questions about neighbours. But going from the house selling thread there's a bit of a North/South divide on this. All EAs I've ever dealt with expected and offered to conduct viewings but up North it seems they expect a more DIY approach. I'd be right pissed off with that. What am I paying you for then?

TVs being on constantly, like noisy moving wallpaper, is something I can't tolerate in any situation - especially not in a house viewing one. :verm:

My MIL (not northern) absolutely swears by doing her own viewings. She's always sold houses quickly so it can't all be bad, it just sits uncomfortably to me.

I think if you're happy to do it and preferably you haven't got a houseful of kids and dogs and whatever then fine but the EA should absolutely offer it as part of the service, and that's the thing that seems to be the N/S divide.

For photos I've seen televisions on quite a lot, but with a beautiful nature scene to make it look like a big painting, rather than a close up of Mary Berry chewing on a cream horn :))

Having bought and sold properties north and south I don't get the north/south difference thing. Does it really exist or is it just that people down south request it more?

This isn't for sale, it's someone showing off their newly decorated room on FB. How cold and uncomfortable does it look?? (Also I'm not bitching about all the loose cables as they have said it's not quite finished).

I believe the TV provides that.

It looks as though it was designed so it could be hosed down easily.
