That’s awful nine, I hope the money is sorted.
Inod to trust surveys either, it seems so subjective based on whatever mood the surveyor is in that day.

After seeing what I got for £475 on the first place we were going to buy, we decided not to bother with a survey on the place we have now bought. Admittedly, it's only six years old but the survey told me nothing I didn't know already and I'm not a surveyor.
I hope you get some redress.

Oh my god! That's quite a thing to miss.Beatrix wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 4:51 pm
My ILs got their money back on their survey, and some compensation too. The surveyor said the house was entirely built in the 1950s. Except the main part dates back to 1600s and there was a cob (straw and mud) chimney (which the surveyor failed to mention) and the fireplace was in use - totally not in line with regulations and had to be completely gutted.

My MIL and stepFIL have put their house up for sale. It's crazy anyway (but then selling their last one and buying this was crazy, but that's another story) but is it just me that thinks choosing now for a non-essential sale is actually batshit insane. I know what will happen, they'll get no viewings (quite possibly because no one is allowed outside) and then in a few months we'll be in recession and prices will fall and they'll be all .

I've been having this discussion with Mr Speedy. I'm terrified about the situation. Not helped by both of us working in a hospital (who now have confirmed cases), having elderly mothers who both need support and one of his sisters having stage 4 breast cancer. I think we should hold fire while Mr Speedy keeps finding houses that he thinks we should look at. I just think there's too many massive problems that could crop up while he thinks life shouldn't stop.
Ours isn't on the market yet.

I’m worried our sale will fall through.

I'll keep everything crossed for you Starry. I think if ours was already on the market I'd persevere but as it isn't I'd rather leave it till when hopefully everything improves.

I think my attitude to my in laws situation is quite coloured by their erratic and nonsensical house buying history. Putting it up for sale at the beginning of an actual pandemic is just the icing on the cake really.
I hope you're ok starry. It's so concerning on all sorts of fronts.

If they're anything like my parents they'll think this pandemic is all a massive fuss about nothing, entirely manufactured by social media.

I think all parents are like that at the moment
Your in-laws are bonkers smal.
I’m terrified beyond measure that our house sale is going to fall through and we’re meant to be exchanging next week.

I have everything crossed for you starry.
I would be losing my mind if we hadn’t exchanged and were still in airbnbs with everything in storage.

I'm not sure whether I should be glad I have left that flat and am finally in the house, or concerned I've cut my savings in half and have a bigger mortgage while my income may stop altogether.

Unsurprisingly, my sellers are refusing to pay me for the cleaning etc. They say the house was clean (lol) and that I should have asked them to clear the rubbish, which I suppose I could have but my solicitor didn't advise me to do this. Ah well.

I can't be bothered, tbh. Money is too tight at the moment and I probably wouldn't win.

What arses nine. I wish there was a tripadvisor type thing for actual people. Skanks.
Bad news here - our house move in April is off. Our sellers were planning to move in with their father in April but he's elderly and self-isolating and they (understandably) don't want to do it. It remains to be seen if we can still exchange now and then move in August (when the place they are buying is available), it depends on whether they want to, and also what our buyers want to do. UUGGGHHHHHHHHHHH
