I completely sympathise as I felt the same. I think white metro with dark grout would be lovely.

White metro would look lovely. I’m not a fan of dark grout though (but it’s not my kitchen).

Re: Extension plans
I don’t think that would bother me because shades of grey go together and I’d go for a really pale grey tile. We have these in our downstairs loo which is what I mean.sally maclennane wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:26 pmEverything else is grey though, the base units are charcoal, the worktop is light grey quartz, the wall units are dove grey.Princess Morripov wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:24 pm I would go for something quite neutral so you can do what you want with colours later. Like a grey metro?
White would definitely look nice though.

Re: Extension plans
I love the idea of white metro tiles with dark grey grout. Pale grey would be nice too but I love the practicality of dark grout.

You might hate this idea but maybe a pale green tile?

In our kitchen we’ve got larger pale grey tiles with grey grout and that’s worked out pretty well. We’ve not regrouted since it was done 6 years ago so it’s lasted well.

Re: Extension plans
We have coloured glass rather than tiles but it was installed later. The glass place suggested living with a few samples once the kitchen was installed as it can look quite different under different light.

Re: Extension plans
We have cream/white metro with white grout. I don't like coloured grout.
These have been in 10 years.
Edit. I am quite boring in my choices though

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

I don't think you can go wrong with pale grey or the white with dark grey grout.

I'd be tempted to go super neutral too if you've got a tame tiler ready to go - you can always add colour with accessories, paint the wall to the right etc.

Yes, the painter suggested that (painting the wall on the right) actually. I do like the coloured splashbacks but I'm coming round more to the white tiles with grey grout.

It looks so good, Sal and I remember the decision making fatigue phase well.
I love the white metro tile/ grey grout look Squirrel posted. It’s ties the charcoal & white units together nicely.

Re: Extension plans
I'd go for a simple white non-bevelled* metro with a nice light-grey grout like Mapei in Moon White. Yes, I know specific grouts.

* I had bevelled metros in my old kitchen and they were a NIGHTMARE to get fitted properly. If you cut them you have an edge that sticks out. Flat ones are a lot easier!

Re: Extension plans
My bevelled tiles nearly gave me a nervous breakdown. I had to have them all removed and completely redone by someone else.

How about something like these?

We had the grey (Gloucester Road) our old house and they looked as good as new 10 years and three tenants later.

Re: Extension plans
I have white metro tiles with dark grey grout and I love them. Bevelled is fine on a flat wall but we've tiled into the window recess and it was a pain on the edges; we solved the problem with stainless steel trim but the builder had to cut it down in order to fit so it was a pain.

Re: Extension plans
Yeah, I think it's nice to have a slight glaze rather than flat white tiles. I can't tell from the photo whether your cupboards are glossy or not but I think the contrast would be lovely.
