- How do the upper cupboards open?
- How deep are the cupboards forming the "legs" of the bar and what will you keep in them?
Not at all!

The upper cupboards have horizontal doors if that makes sense - picture below. You push them and they spring open.

The cupboards on the breakfast bar are about a foot deep, they are empty just now but I have some nice glasses and I think I'll put them in there.

Those doors look great, the spring action must be really practical.

I've saved the picture of the hob / bar set up and shown MrPG as it's very similar to what we'd like to do. I was getting a bit swayed by the fashion for big single level islands, but your photo nicely illustrates how it's visually so much better to have the kitchen side hidden when you're in the dining area.

Our sofa arrived this morning and we got the dining chairs back last week :perky:

Thanks, we still need to sort some stuff like a TV unit, and cushions, paintings, a rug etc. I also have to decide about curtains, there's a small window opposite the sofa, and then the doors. I don't know if I will bother for the doors, I hate vertical blinds and I can't imagine that curtains will work.

What about a roman blind, Sal?

Do you mean for the doors, Edith? That might work.

And the window. I’m a big fan of them - the softness of curtains and the tidiness of blinds without being clinical.

Actually, I think I would leave the doors, if it were me. Is the window alongside the doors, on the same wall?

We've got a long roller blind over our bifolds. We had to have something because the sun streams in in the summer afternoons. I liked a roman blind but knew they'd have to have about 3 to span the width and it would look a bit messy with the strings, and cost a fortune, so we ended up with a custom made roller.

That looks fantastic, Sal. They've done such a good job. You must be chuffed to bits.

A roman blind would work well over that window and I'd be tempted to leave the door. The top of the window looks to be lower than the top of the door (?) If you fitted a blind so the tops were on a level, that would balance things out.

Yeah, I'm tempted to leave the doors, that side of the house doesn't get much sun. The window and the doors are on the same wall.

It all looks fabulous, I love the little sofa nook. Are you having a rug or anything? I'd definitely have to have a blind or curtains over the doors but only because I have a fear of uncovered windows when it is dark because people can see in but I can't see out. My sister's old house had loads of huge uncovered windows and I could never relax :bob:
