End of week 1 and they have made really good progress. The weather has been mixed but they have put a gazebo up in the garden which lets them work in most weathers, and the extension itself is well under way so they are quite often inside that. I'll add pics from my phone if they're not too big.

The guys have been great but I had a bit of a battle at the start to get them to stop using my neighbour's drive as a storage space! The driveways are adjoining and there's no fence or wall between them but it's not hard to tell which is mine and which is the other house. It's been made worse by the fact that the neighbours' house is on the market so obviously they don't want any mess. To be fair, they have been largely fine about it - it's empty (he bought it as a buy to let but has now decided to sell it) - but they have had viewers most days so naturally they don't want piles of timber or bags of cement lying outside. The builders have grumbled a bit about it but as I pointed out, if there was a fence there they wouldn't have tossed everything over that!

We ordered the shower room suite this morning and have been to look at tiles too. The back wall of the kitchen has a gap between the wall units and the worktop and I can't decide whether to get that tiled - it doesn't really need a splashback as the cooker is on the island but tiles would give it some colour. I liked metro tiles in a herringbone style but J pulled a face and then said hurriedly "of course it's your choice" but now it's put me off :lg:

It's all very first world problems but the decision making is so hard :emme:

Are you changing the layout so that what was your kitchen is now the utility and the kitchen is now on the wall through to the lounge, looking out to the back?

It's going to be so amazing when it's done. I'm inviting myself for cocktails once it's done (and we're allowed out), I'll bring the booze.

Yes, the current dining room will become the kitchen, and that will be open plan to the new part which will be a living/dining space. That will have sliding doors out to the back garden. The current kitchen will be a utility room and also a shower room.

You will be very welcome to come over for cocktails 🍸

It sounds very exciting!

I often just screenshot photos to get them small enough to upload here.

This was last weekend, so end of the first full week. They have made lots more progress this week, all of it very messy  I will try to get more photos later but they have broken through from the new part into the dining room and as we can only access the kitchen through the dining room, it means the kitchen has been largely out of bounds while they are working. It is also filthy at the end of each day so we have to clean it up each night but it means we can still use it as it's just dust :look:

You can't see so well because of the gazebo but you still get the gist.

So exciting, Sal! Living with the mess can make it all feel interminable but you will forget about that when you are living your Sunday supplement kitchen life :))

My friend in work had a very similar extension done a few months ago, so hers is almost finished and she sent me a video the other day. I am SO envious of her and she told me it feels like such a luxury to have cupboards again
